Trump accuses Jeanine Pirro of ‘folding’ by dropping reflecting pool charges
The Guardian ^ | 08/03/2026

Donald Trump accused US attorney Jeanine Pirro of having “folded like an umbrella” amid reports that he was considering removing her from her post.

Trump criticized Pirro on Monday after she dropped vandalism charges against a former Olympian accused of damaging the recently renovated Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool. Trump nominated Pirro to serve as interim US attorney for the District of Columbia last year, and the Senate later confirmed her in August.

Speaking to reporters from the Oval Office, Trump said: “Frankly, I think she choked because the judge was really vicious. Instead of going after the people that did it, the judge went after her and went after her department, and I guess she choked,” appearing to refer to DC superior court judge Todd Edelman who is overseeing the vandalism case.

Vandalism or no vandalism. The job was poorly done.

This entire episode is an egregious and multifacted example of Trump’s hubris that he should have never been involved with, in any respect.

There is a filter I apply to my endeavors: I call it NPG “No Possible Gain”.

There was no possible way Trump could have benefitted from this exercise. It was entirely non-presidential. This should have been handled by Park Service people.

He’s only compounding his losses. It’s entirely unsmart.

A no-bid contract given to one of Trump’s friends who installed his house pool

What could go wrong?

Judge Pirro is as proud a professional as the president sees himself to be. I hope she doesn’t just up and quit the position after having her personal courage called into question. This is how friends become ‘,reimagined” as enemies.

I agree. As much as I admire and support what he’s been trying to do, this is a big error on Trump’s part.

Why, because he believes he is never wrong. He is on this and he should shut his pie hole and get himself out of the Iran mess and not worry about a pool.

So did Pirro cave or was the contractor substandard? Strange situation. Porto is normally hardcore.

How did they get an indictment?
Why not prosecute?

I think the determination was made a conviction would not happen

I don’t care about convictions anymore. I want indictments and trials. Prove to the people what is going on. I accept that convictions will be difficult to achieve in our urban areas. Put them on trial!

Time and attention are finite. Broadcast and ink devoted to this is not devoted to how he has increased his net worth more in the last two years than in his entire life up to 2023.

Because this was a special pet project of his. It was personal. He wanted this to be a part of his big beautiful July 4th celebration. But we all know how screwed up the whole reconstruction project went.

It’s a safe bet that pissed him off to no end. He’s still angry.

Trump has lots of enemies. It doesn’t help him to attack his friends.
