Cincinnati — For Avondale resident Christopher Adams, going to the grocery store was a twice a week trip. After the store closed, that task may become a lot harder.
The neighborhood of Avondale’s only sizable grocery store, The Country Meat Co. Marketplace, announced that it’s shutting its doors on Facebook in early July. It opened in February 2025, and when it closed the “now open” banner still hung above the door.
Before the store opened, Avondale was considered a “food desert.” Many of its residents lived more than a mile away from a grocery store that could provide nutritious, fresh food. With the store now closed, the only places in the neighborhood for residents to get food are local mini-marts, not all of which offer produce and meat.

Closest grocery store to me is 15 miles either way. Deal with it.
I will tell you with assurance that any urban area with a large concentration of black residents and Section 8 housing are going to see blight that will close stores. No one can stay in business while being unprofitable.
Most people have no idea how complicated running even a small grocery store is. If you do it very well you will make between two and three percent profit.
I know. The “within 1 mile” definition is ridiculous. Almost no one I know lives that close to a grocery store.
I drive 2 miles to the nearest store. Am I in a ‘food desert?’
Logic such as needing to pay for incoming food, employees and utilities and some for the owner to manage all that is an incomprehensible mystery to socialists and the people they trained to be cargo cult stupid.
Avondale is 81% black. Black entitlement and black lawlessness is to blame.
The store was black owned in an area that is 81-85% African American.
But the stats in article are a bit misleading. There is a major Kroger store 1-2.5 miles away from the center of Avondale. The fact that the Kroger opened probably finally ruined the guy’s business.
But this nearby Kroger store is calling the cops several times a day to report shoplifting according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.
That means they also live in a cigarette desert, a scratcher desert, a zig-zag desert.....

Wom’t have to hire any cashier’s because everything will be STOLEN in a few days. You are not allowed to say so BUT blacks steal everything in sight and TWERK laughing as they go out the door. THIS IS NOT RACIST just the truth.

While the market closed in early July, the owner hinted at future plans in a Facebook post.
“We don’t stop. We build.” The owners posted.
Exactly right.
Grocers cannot prosper in high crime neighborhoods where retail thefts are not prosecuted.
Yep, for decades, my closest store was 35 miles away. Of course it was my choice to live in the country - but complaining about a mile away?
- blacks in high concentrations are not a viable society for anyone.
- blacks in isolated, very low concentrations in white areas benefit.
- white areas without black populations are a highly viable society.
- white areas with a few sparce black residents are a highly viable society.
- extensive public transportation is a liability for a viable society where blacks have access.
Poor me. I live in rural poverty, seven miles away from the nearest food store. I’ve lived here 39 years and haven’t starved to death. No, I’ve not resorted to eating my dogs and cats, not even the abundant local snakes.
Couldn’t The Country Meat Co. control ‘shrinkage’ enough to stay in business?
Pity.
Some of these welfare sows could benefit from a couple of miles of walking.

Can I ask what their Theft Losses are?
The thieves steal from every single store in my area
Daily - I see a cop car 🚓 at my local Walmart all of the time
Even yesterday
