Walmart is lowering prices on thousands of items, including beef, soda and household goods

Walmart is lowering prices on thousands of products, including beef, Coca-Cola and laundry detergent, saying the cuts are aimed at reducing the costs of seasonal summer items.

The largest U.S. retailer on Monday said the price cuts will be available in its stores and in Sam's Club locations, on Walmart.com, SamsClub.com, and through the Walmart and Sam's Club apps. The reductions apply to groceries and other household items, such as grills, sunscreen and lawn mowers.

President Trump praised Walmart for the reductions and sought to claim credit for the decision.

"I have just been informed that one of the biggest, best, and smartest Retailers in America, Walmart, will be lowering prices, by a lot, at my Administration's request to celebrate our great Country's 250th birthday," Mr. Trump wrote on Monday in a social media post.

Walmart declined to comment on Mr. Trump's post. Its announcement about the price reductions did not mention the president.

The price reductions went into effect last week, according to a Walmart spokesperson. The announcement represents a continuation of Walmart's existing strategy of emphasizing low prices and affordability, noted Vital Knowledge analyst Adam Crisafulli in a report.

Still, the price cuts are a win for both Walmart and Mr. Trump, who is facing criticism from Democrats for failing to reduce the cost of living, despite his campaign pledges to drive down inflation. The Consumer Price Index in May reached its highest level in more than three years, driven higher by soaring energy prices caused by the Iran war.

"It's a win/win for both sides — Trump needs to improve his messaging around affordability ahead of the midterms, and Walmart loves to occupy the low-price spotlight," Crisafulli wrote.

Some prices are down at Wal-Mart, but not beef. No.

I hear they’re lowering the price of 73% ground beef from $5+ to 15% lower. Big deal. I buy 80% for less than that, and it doesn’t have pink slime in it.

I’d like to see the media do some work and show some examples of lowered prices. Walmart didn’t wipe out mom and pop competition in order to reduce prices later for the good of its customers after becoming the only game in a lot of towns. I’ve started going to Aldi for a number of items because they have better prices, similar quality and a better shopping experience than Walmart.

Last week my local Shop-Rite(this is NJ) had NY strip steaks, two to a pack for 9.99 a pound.

Not a bad deal. I also picked a ‘’six pack’’ of center cut, bone in pork chops about half an inch thick for 1.99 a pound. It’s just me and the wife so that will make three meals for us.

The bone in Pork chops taste so much better than pork without. That was a great price for it. Our beef is through the roof at Walmart. Sometimes they have specials, but even then it’s still, like $11 or more.

I think it is an attempt to muscle some customers away from Costco.

$8 for a pound of bacon, and Farmland shrunk their bacon to 14oz instead of 16oz. With meat, the only thing getting smaller is the package size, while the price stays the same or even higher.

The Aldi in my area closed up shop last month. They only gave a one week notice and they closed it. No one saw it coming and we still don’t have answers as to why, though many of us can pretty much figure that part out.

Yep noticed that with other food stuff too, smaller, less, but paying more. Shrinkflation. Not long ago we’d buy a whole tenderloin and trim it ourselves. The price on sale was $9.99. Can’t find those anymore for that price. Even the “London broil” (tough cut of meat) is like $9 now a lb. Hamburger is through the roof too. Pay as much per lb as we did for NY strip steaks not l9ng ago. Used to get flat iron steaks, which we love- for around $8 lb. That proce is long gone.

One great cut, if you can find it, is the Picanha, or courgette cuts. Tender, juicy and around $10 lb. Only place we can find it though is BJ’s. It does have a huge fat cap, but that is what gives it great f,avor when coo,ING. We just trim the fat after it’s cooked. We’ve stocked up on them when we can. We a.ways check out the bins where the older meat is, usually discounted pretty decently. Sometimes we get some good deals.

We buy tuna steaks there. Excellent flavor. Gotta learn how to cook it though as it overcooks pretty rapidly. I’m allergic to fish, a bit- so I don’t eat it but do take a taste while cooking it... probably playing with fire, but I love fish, especially tuna steaks and swordfish

Walmart sees Amazon as the competitor and Amazon is who they want to replace. Walmart/Sams Club’s focus is getting you to put their app on your phone and scanning your purchases as you put them in the cart and then pay digitally with your phone and go thru the exit doors.

With that same app you can look up an item see the aisle location or from home order it to be delivered within the hour or shipped next day (free shipping if more than $35).

Walmart also has a fleet of drones in many of the large cities which flies your order to your front door.

Costco, on the under hand does not even digitally locate their items in store so they cannot and refuse to offer “Curbside delivery” which is very popular. They have a long way to go to catch up to Walmart because Walmart is going after Amazon’s business.

I guess Walmart has seen how popular Door Dash is now because now they are offering the same “pick up your fast food order” at Subway or wherever on the way to deliver your Walmart or Sams Club order.
