CIA and FBI leaders are resisting Donald Trump's mandate that intelligence agencies compile a master list of every US spy and potential recruit, amid fears it could endanger their own agents.
The Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), first under Tulsi Gabbard and now under new director Bill Pulte, has in recent months spearheaded the grand spy list effort. ODNI was created in the aftermath of 9/11 to foster better communication among intel agencies.
Trump wants the master list because officials claim it could used to better track foreign intelligence threats and avoid inadvertent conflicts when different agencies are working the same targets, according to the New York Times.
The effort has been largely unsuccessful, as senior counterintelligence officials have refused to hand over their master lists amid disagreements over how such a database would be secured and maintained.
For the FBI, such a master list of espionage targets would include those the bureau wants to investigate and potentially arrest down the line.
For the CIA, it would include a significant number of potential individuals the agency hopes to recruit as assets.
Some current and former intelligence officials fear that putting identifying details on the most sensitive cases could fatally compromise long-running investigations and operations via a single leak.
The identities of these targets are closely guarded national security secrets, insulated from most personnel within their own agencies.

I wonder who suggested this to Trump, and why.
Catastrophic risk of deep state traitors getting fired and prosecuted.
NOC list
List probably has a lot Commies pretending to be US agents. They’ve infilitrated our schools and government, especially on the local level. Even churches - we’ve seen it at ours.
How many US intel agents and “spies” actually work for MI6?
If the Daily Mail is worried about it, you can guess the intent
This list will be helpful to communist China.
I suspect communist China already has a secret agent list. Probably more updated than our “official” list.
It is a very bad idea. I doubt such a list would remain secure for very long. Maybe separate lists entrusted to separate holders (for want of a better word) but the entire list in a single place? That would not bode well for U.S. intelligence services. Not that they don’t need to be reined in more often than not but risking the lives of those who serve with honor is not the solution.
Firewalls have always been a good thing when it comes to sensitive matters.
Need to know.
I’m sure Trump has the best of intentions. But perhaps it would be better for Trump to examine and coordinate things compartment by compartment.
As a side note, I would what the ChiComs would pay for a master list. Probably plenty. Same goes with Muslim nations. Perhaps it’s better not to give them that opportunity.
What could possibly go wrong?.....................🤔🙄
At most only one person should know who an agent is.
Typically, agents supply info to us.
Placement of agents by Western countries has typically resulted in them getting caught.
They have since before the creation of the OSS.
Then just give him access to all lists separately, what’s the big deal?
“I suspect communist China already has a secret agent list. Probably more updated than our “official” list.”
Lots of Chinese nationals want to get rich by learning in the USA and then setting up a business in China.
The Chinese government itself needs to do nothing. American stupidity does all the work. The American “cheap labor” system is itself at fault.
Recently, MI6 appears to have had multiple FReepers on the payroll.
Wouldn't surprise me, but give variances in propensities among the population of FReepers, I think it an unnecessary expense.
So… only spies have an absolute right to privacy?
What does Ray Epps think about this?
