Los Angeles schools superintendent resigns, months after FBI raid

Los Angeles Unified School District Superintendent Alberto Carvalho has announced he is resigning, months after he was placed on administrative leave following an FBI raid at his home and office in February, the district confirmed Sunday.

An LAUSD spokesperson said the LAUSD Board of Education “acknowledges receipt of the letter of resignation from Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho, effective June 21, 2026.”

“The Board remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring stability, continuity, and continued progress through strong leadership. Our focus remains unchanged: providing every student with a high-quality education, supporting our dedicated workforce, and maintaining the trust of the communities we serve,” a statement from LAUSD shared.

The district also confirmed that Acting Superintendent Andrés Chait would remain in that position until a permanent decision is made, however, did not share when discussion on next steps would begin.

The FBI has not said what it’s investigating in relation to Carvalho, but it served search warrants at his office near LAUSD headquarters, his San Pedro home and a house near Miami, Florida, on Feb. 25.

While the FBI stayed mum about the searches at Carvalho’s home and office, court records show federal prosecutors have a separate, ongoing fraud case against the CEO of the now-defunct education technology company called AllHere, which landed a $6 million contract with the district to provide an AI-powered chatbot called “Ed” two years ago.

When unveiling “Ed,” Carvalho touted that it would act as a personal assistant for students and parents. The chatbot was supposed to do multiple tasks, such as tracking grades and providing educational and mental health resources.

Wow, a technology company bribing a top school official.

It should be a meme.

Or a Simpsons show.

Fraud, corruption, and theft of taxpayer money in every single corner, everywhere. What to do...what to do.

No doubt it’s fraud, corruption and theft. I’m beginning to believe many don’t understand it’s wrong as it has been so ingrained- it’s just business.

Acting Superintendent Andrés Chait

An immigrant from Chile. Carvalho was from Brazil. Amazing that apparently no American-born educators are qualified to be in charge of the LAUSD.

IIRC there is a scene in the movie “Cromwell” (1970) in which Oliver Cromwell shows up in front of Parliament and accuses them of using their office to enrich themselves. One of the MPs is truly astonished and says, “Why else would I go into politics???”

Sadly, it may be that the best course of action is to let their corruption play out, and their system collapse under its own weight. As long as it does not directly impact any other state.

This is another aspect of DEI. You have to tick the right number of boxes.
Immigrant,
Female,
Black,
Trans,
LGB,
Democrat,
Communist,
etc., etc.

Carvalho is Portuguese and therefore a white European. He is presumably not homosexual, as he has been married to a woman since 1998 and has a daughter. He is alleged to have had an affair with a woman reporter in 2008 while still married. Carvalho starts out with two strikes against him. However, his leftist creds are supported by his initial arrival in the United States as an illegal alien who later received citizenship. Carvalho likely networked well in liberal circles, receiving several awards from the Obama Administration.

The Justice Department should revoke his citizenship if convicted and deport him after he serves prison time.

I’d prefer just to see him gone with the guarantee that if he steps foot on American soil he’ll then go to prison. The reason is prison costs too much and there isn’t enough space to lock up the homicidal maniacs.

When I was speaking of those things, I was speaking beyond the scope of this one state. It is being exposed everywhere, in every state, billions of taxpayer dollars.

Agreed, it’s not just CA. It’s every blue state. We can limit the federal-related fraud to some extent.

As long as these fraud-ridden states in total do not exceed 268 Electoral Votes, we can let them get what they deserve.
