Israel and Iran harden stances on Lebanon pullout, risking Trump’s deal
The Times of Israel ^ | June 18, 2026 | Emanuel Fabian

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman warned Thursday that a continued IDF presence in southern Lebanon would mean the “annulment” of the memorandum of understanding it signed with the United States, as Israel doubled down on its plans to keep troops in the area amid its ongoing conflict with the Hezbollah terror group.

Speaking to the Hezbollah-aligned Lebanese news outlet Al Akhbar, Esmaeil Baghaei said the continuation of Israel’s offensive would be a violation of the memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran that was signed this week.

The signed memorandum affirms a commitment to Lebanon’s territorial integrity in the face of Israel’s ground operation against the terror group. The clause has proven thorny as Israel refuses to withdraw from wide swaths of southern Lebanon, saying it will not cede the ground to Hezbollah, which has long held sway in the country’s south and from which it has been firing missiles and drones at Israel.

An official close to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told Reuters that Israel had been “conducting stubborn negotiations” with the US on the issue of maintaining its deployment in Lebanon.

Israel has no intention of backing down on its positions, the official said, amid continued hostilities between IDF troops and the terror group.

The MOU, memorandum of understanding, good or bad, is bound to fail. Iran will never keep its part. Perhaps this was only meant to calm republican nerves before the midterms?

Trump should send the deal to the senate to ratify. Put the blame on them because it’s a crap deal.

Israel isn’t bound by any deal between the US and Iran.

So I personally don’t care how many hezbolla savages they kill in Lebanon. In fact I encourage them to kill all of them.

” In fact I encourage them to kill all of them.”

Same here.

It would be a service to the world.

all for some sort of show. Iran doesn’t keep their word about peaceful existence with most others, ever. Trump knows they won’t abide so he did the MOU for some other reason. likely, as usual, so Iran will expose itself further as liars.

Israel is in Southern Lebanon because Hezbollah was using the areas to mount rocket attacks into Northern Israel.

Despite the Buffer zone, Israel has had to evacuate 60,000 of it's civilians from Northern Israel and most may never return. If Israel withdraws from it's buffer zone, even more Israelis who are now in the range of Hezbollah missiles moved into the buffer zone will be forced to evacuate. Israeli unilateral withdrawal from it's Southern Lebanon buffer zone is simply not an option at this time. Iran's attempts to tie Israeli hands against Hezbollah in Lebanon as part of the MOU with is a non starter, especially since Iran is already violating the MOU terms in Iran and Lebanon before the ink is even dry.

Republicans in Congress are awful. Lat week they were voting to “end” the war and today they’re complaining about the outcome. They are horrible.

I don’t know the Times of Israel from Adam but it seems like daily a new report surfaces that the Iran deal is close to being scuttled over some new allegation.

And yet it doesn’t happen. Methinks some agitator with a bee in his bonnet over achieving peace is just spouting bs in a wild desperate hope that this deal falls apart.

They’re on all sides, Mr. President. Don’t fall for it.

They’ve been trying for decades. Doesn’t seem to be working. Not for nothing but their strategy has made them hated by much of the world. They had so much good will on both sides at one point and now they’ve lost half of the Republican Party and you can’t get elected as a Democrat if you even utter support for them. That seems to be the result of their strategy. I suppose if they were actually getting somewhere with the battles that may just be the price to pay but they haven’t gotten anywhere except through the Abraham Accords and now they’ve lost half are crapping on the guy who is pushing Mid East partners very hard to recognize them. Is that really a winning strategy? Vance said it well today.

Can’t blame them. If Israel wasn’t there for the take-off, nobody should expect them for the landing.

Re: "The signed memorandum affirms a commitment to Lebanon's territorial integrity..."

Really?

So, the state-less terror organization Hezbollah is welcomed by Iran and Lebanon, but the terror victim - Israel - is not?

Cannot wait to hear Trump endorse this blatant lie.

Never stop defending yourself no matter who tells you otherwise.

The Jackal and the Shepherd

In a sun-scorched valley where ancient flocks had grazed since the dawn of recorded time, there lived a shepherd named Benjamin. His people were few, their pastures ringed by wolves, hyenas, and serpents that had sworn eternal oaths to devour every lamb and kid. For decades the flock had been slaughtered in their tents, rockets rained upon their children’s schools, and tunnels dug beneath their very cradles. Benjamin, scarred and unyielding, stood at the gate with staff and sling, ordering the walls strengthened, the watchtowers manned, and the weak defended. He made hard choices in wartime, as every shepherd who refuses to surrender his people must. Some of those choices were debated even among his own kin, for no man is perfect and no war is clean.

From the distant rocks, a mangy jackal watched. He had no flock of his own. He had never guarded lambs from slaughter, never buried his young beneath rubble, never faced an enemy that celebrated death. Yet his muzzle dripped with venom as he howled to the winds: “Behold the wicked shepherd! He defends his own not from love, but from malice! Every blow he strikes against the wolves is proof of his black heart. He enjoys it. He plots in secret. All shepherds of that bloodline are thus—eternal villains, never victims, never men merely guarding what is theirs.”

The jackal’s cry was taken up by lesser scavengers. They did not speak of the wolves’ charters calling for the total extermination of the flock. They did not mention the hyenas who strap bombs to their own pups and send them shrieking into markets. They ignored the serpents whose holy men preach that the very existence of the shepherd’s people is an offense to heaven. No. Their eyes were fixed only on Benjamin. Every defensive strike became “disproportionate,” every fallen wolf became proof of monstrous intent, every Jewish corpse conveniently forgotten or justified as “resistance.”

This is the ancient libel dressed in new rags. The jackal does not hate the shepherd for his staff; he hates the shepherd for existing as a shepherd at all. Strip away the convenient name “Netanyahu” and the mask slips: it is the Jew who is accused of bad intent for the crime of refusing to die quietly. When the Jew builds a wall, it is apartheid. When he tears the wall down, it is aggression. When he is slaughtered, it is his own fault for provoking. When he fights back, his very survival is cast as bloodlust. The jackal’s ancestors sang the same tune in every age—Pharaoh, Haman, the Cossacks, the Nazis, the modern campus chanters who wave swastikas and keffiyehs side by side. Always the same refrain: the Jew who defends himself is the real villain; the Jew who merely breathes is the eternal conspirator.

You, who level this charge, are not a principled critic of policy. You are the jackal. Your accusation is not about one man’s decisions in a seven-front war against genocidal foes. It is the blood libel updated for the twenty-first century: the Jew as uniquely malevolent, the Jewish leader as uniquely sinister, the Jewish state as uniquely illegitimate. You cloak medieval hatred in the language of “human rights” while cheering the butchers who parade raped women and burned babies as trophies. You demand the shepherd lay down his sling while the wolves sharpen their teeth.

History has seen your kind before. The jackals always come slinking when the flock dares to live. And the flock, by miracle and stubborn will, has outlasted every pack of them. The shepherd stands. The lambs graze under uneasy stars. And the jackal’s howl echoes into the desert—hollow, impotent, and damned by its own venom.

Return to your rocks, scavenger. The people you slander have heard this song for three thousand years. They are still here. You offer nothing but the same old poison, and it will poison only you in the end.

Jeeezzzze, people, please learn about the Constitution and assigned roles of the three branches. Congress does not ratify Memorandums of Understanding. They only ratify TREATIES. Please stop expecting more from this or any president than they can lawfully deliver.

Hezbollah is still owed payback for the 1983 bombing of the Marine barracks in Beirut. 241 Americans and over 50 allies European troops murdered.

Payback is when Hezbollah is wiped out. Not before.

Its remarkably dumb for Trump to include Lebanon in his deal when Lebanon is thousands pf miles away from Iran and has nothing to do with it.
