Quivering Karmelo Anthony is convicted of murdering Austin Metcalf, 17... but now prosecutors have granted him Hail Mary that could see him jailed for as little as TWO YEARS

Karmelo Anthony has been found guilty of murder for the fatal stabbing of Austin Metcalf at a high school track meet.

The killer, 19, sobbed and his family burst into tears as the judge read the verdict on Tuesday. His mother begged a jury to show him 'mercy' ahead of sentencing.

Jurors were then presented with arguments from the defense and prosecution before being sent out to deliberate on the length of his punishment.

Anthony was originally warned he faced between five and 99 years behind bars for knifing Metcalf, 17, at the track event in Frisco, Texas, last year.

But after the verdict was passed at the Collin County courthouse on Tuesday, prosecutors agreed to consider 'sudden passion' as a factor when determining Anthony's sentence.

This is a legal term that allows a criminal to argue they were in an intense emotional state when they committed wrongdoing. If it is granted, it would reduce Anthony's murder to a second-degree felony.

Judge John Roach has yet to rule on whether to accept the sudden passion defense. If he does, it could see Anthony serve as little as two years behind bars, with a maximum sentence of 20 years.

Roach could ultimately decide to rule against the sudden passion application and give jurors the power to put Anthony behind bars for the rest of his life.

I predicted he'd either go free or get a slap on the wrist.

I hope I'm wrong.

This was not a sudden passion event.

He planned it, acted on it and premeditatedly killed a human being in cold blood...........

Wow. “Sudden passion” is a mitigating circumstance.

His sentence should be at the end of a rope. His future victims and their loved ones will be grateful.

Our justice system has become ideological and political in nature.

This would truly be a slap in the face. This turd was asked 15 times to get out of the tent. There was nothing sudden about it. He stayed because he was wanting to create a situation to use that knife on someone.

It’s sensationalism to get clicks. For the jury to come back so soon there is no doubt that they were very convinced that carmelo planned and executed the murder with much forethought. And the fact that there are pictures of him with an AK and acting like the thug he is will not bode well for him.

For the legal minds out there- is this a way for the prosecutors to get a max sentence on this case? Tell the judge they will consider it versus telling the judge there’s no way they will consider it and the judge turning around and giving a lighter sentence???

Asking for a layman....

Texas can’t execute him.

Texas did not even try to execute the guy who drove 8 hours to murder a couple dozen people in the El Paso Walmart.

When you plan a murder it’s not sudden passion.....

Witness testified that he had his hand in the backpack where the knife was. He planned to use it........

“Sudden Passion” sentence is 2-20. He would be eligible for parole after serving half of his sentence.

I never understand this stuff. It’s like — I can’t control myself. I get all passionate. And when I get passionate, I just start killing people. There’s nothing I can do about it. It’s just the way I am. And that is why you should allow me to return to society after an extremely short stay in prison.

How about “No”?

This was not a sudden passion event.

Some demographic groups seem to often fall into a "sudden passion."

This defense grants such groups a license to kill.
