U.S. and Iran Zero In on Four Nuclear Issues in Talks
The New York Times ^ | June 9, 2026 | David Sanger

Posted on 06/09/2026 12:02:31 PM PDT by Timber Rattler

In the days before the latest flare-ups of violence in the Middle East, President Trump’s aides were negotiating with Tehran on four major elements of a nuclear agreement that U.S. officials contend would grind the program to a halt for 15 years or so.

The negotiations, according to U.S. officials and diplomats who have been briefed on the confidential talks, have gone considerably beyond discussion about reopening the Strait of Hormuz, which the Iranians have all but shut down for 101 days.

The result is what American officials describe as the hazy outlines of an accord — assuming the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps and hard-line Iranian politicians do not overrule Iran’s chief negotiator, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, or torpedo the much more detailed talks that the United States has proposed to hold in Switzerland this summer.

The Four Points:

  1. A 15-year suspension of uranium enrichment
  2. Dilution of the current stockpile of highly enriched uranium
  3. Dismantling all but one of Iran's nuclear sites
  4. Allow "snap" inspections

So how is this any different than the JCPOA?

It's pretty clear that the Iranians are selling the same rug that they sold to Obama and Biden to Trump, and he's haggling over the price.

Step 1) Knock out all of their electricity.
Step 2) Knock out all of their bridges.
Step 3) Remind them that we aren’t really negotiating. We are explaining how it’s all going to go.

The “deal making” is stupid at this point.

1. No, you can’t have ‘em.
2. No, you can’t have ‘em.
3. No, you can’t have ‘em.
4. If you get ‘em, they will be blown up.

Next.

“...the Strait of Hormuz, which the Iranians have all but shut down for 101 days....”

Why is this? These 7th century devil worshippers should have blown to bits many weeks ago.

100% Agreed. We should be dictating terms, not discussing them.

Alternatively, we should overtake and occupy the country and control it unilaterally until a suitable government can be established. This is a bad situation, and continued negotiation will only make it worse. It always has, and it always will.

What, so tired of winning you forgot what unconditional surrender looks like?

I personally don’t want this can kicked 15 years down the road: I want it squashed once and for all. That’s what ‘winning’ looks like here.

Iran probably wants only nuclear bombs with the power of the Nagasaki bomb. So, a compromise.

As to #1, after the Dem takeover of the House and Senate in January, 2027 and the Presidency added to them in 2028 election, the limit imposed by the date of prohibition of uranium enrichment in Iran will be released, coinciding with new missiles from China and Korea to reach thousands of miles.

If Trump is not negotiating like Korben Dallas at this point, he’s an idiot.

Bunk!

The IRGC dictatorship is pathologically dishonest and self serving.

It’s not any different than the JCPOA. Fortunately, we didn’t pay the price as we did with the stupid war in Iraq. But we will ask ourselves the same question- was it worth it?

Why bother? Iran hasn’t honored one treaty since it fell under Islamic leadership. They simply cannot be trusted, as time has proven over and over.
