VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A Virginia Beach man was found guilty and sentenced on several charges related to sex trafficking.
Pankaj Joshi’s trial was held in Virginia Beach Circuit Court on June 2, 2026.
On Feb. 27, the Virginia Beach Police Department Special Investigations Bureau (SIB) received a tip through the Virginia State Police tip line about a possible human trafficking victim in Virginia Beach. Detectives located the individual and began an investigation.
SIB detectives identified 33-year-old Pankaj Joshi as the suspect in this case. Investigators charged him with human trafficking, pandering, and aiding prostitution.
Detectives also helped the victim get appropriate support resources.
According to the stipulation of facts, the Commonwealth obtained evidence showing the victim in this case met Joshi in 2024. He was a customer of hers. In February 2026, detectives received a tip that the woman was a trafficking victim. Detectives responded to an ad, and while detectives were in the room with the victim, other detectives had surveillance on Joshi. He was wearing the clothing and shoes described by the tipster. Detectives took him into custody. During an interview, he admitted that he was the person who communicated with detectives to set up the date, according to court records.
Joshi was sentenced to five years in prison on the sex trafficking charge, with all five years suspended. On the pandering charge, he was sentenced to five years in prison with four years and nine months suspended (3 months to serve.) For the aiding in prostitution charge, he was sentenced to 12 months in prison, all suspended. This equates to a total of three months he will have to serve. He will be on probation for several years following his release.
WAVY reached out to the Virginia Beach Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office to ask if this was in line with sentencing guidelines for these crimes. Spokesperson Macie Allen confirmed the sentencing was the result of a plea agreement. Guidelines recommended a sentence of one day to three months. She said the Commonwealth asked for a 1-year sentence.
The Virginia Beach Police Department SIB is part of the Hampton Roads Human Trafficking Task Force and the regional Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.

WTF is wrong here ?

The Comminwealth asked for a year, which is a outrage but he serves 3 months ?
Pajeets run the streets. pimping is easy when the so called. “Prosecutors” stroke the pervert’s ego. Corrupt bastards probably use his services.
....”..Joshi was sentenced to five years in prison on the sex trafficking charge, with all five years suspended....”
WTF is going on there....?? a sympathetic judge or what...?
this is an outrage...
Liberal ccontrol of Va., and the republican Party is hesitant to stop them.
Perp's name: Pankaj Joshi
“the victim in this case met Joshi in 2024. He was a customer of hers.”
I take it he became her pimp.
I didn’t see the age of the “victim”.
“Under the California Penal Code 266h and 266i, for example, an offender faces three, four, or six years in state prison (and a possible $10,000 fine) for one count of either pimping or pandering. The penalties rise to three, six, or eight years in prison if the offender’s actions involve pimping or pandering a minor under 16 years old.”

Wow, a whole 3 months?
Does this mean the judge is going without kickbacks for 3 months from him. I knew decades ago that many judges were in on this stuff and precisely why they were on the bench. Can’t disrupt that massive money flow from trafficking by putting your sources in jail.
I saw that . Pimping is easy !
Lemme guess. everyone agreed ,”she’s a whore” and went from there.
These plea bargains , a feather in the prosecutor’s cap ?
This guy is mostly likely nothing more than a customer of prostitution.
Local law enforcement doesn’t go after actual human traffickers (the kind that move 1000s of people across the board).
I noticed no age as well. This is modern journalism. They are too afraid to even give that detail.
It is just as bad that the prosecutor only asked for a year. How young girl’s lives were ruined by this punk?
They are treating sex trafficking as if it were a minor misdemeanor.
I got a similar “sweetheart” deal for simply pulling my EDC out of its holster. 3 months with 10 years suspended. First offense. No violence, nobody hurt, I just made a really bad decision. Re holstered it immediately. Class 2 felony in my state.
This ahole angers me beyond words.
Like I mentioned, they all agreed she was whore and went from there.
Pimping ain’t easy , these non prosecutors are trying their best to make it so.
VA Beach is a dump.
“the California Penal Code is irrelevant to crimes committed in Virginia Beach.”
Legally, you are 100% correct.
However, I typically try to consider what other people think before casting judgement or making an important decision. I read reviews before making purchases on Amazon. I’m a big fan and supporter of Free Republic.
