Rep. Thomas Kean Jr., R-N.J., has now confirmed an illness has kept him from voting on Capitol Hill since March 5 and says he plays to return to Washington, D.C., soon. However, neither he nor others have disclosed the details of his condition.

In an interview with the New Jersey Globe, Kean said that in the next couple of weeks he will return to voting in the House and hit the campaign trail.

“My doctors are confident that I’m on the road to a full recovery,” he also told the newspaper.

Kean said the illness doesn't impact his cognitive health, and doctors don't expect any long-term effects or chronic health issues.

Kean began missing votes the week of March 16, and he's missed 99 roll call votes since. His last vote was on March 5, prior to the House recess.

If he has missed almost 100 votes and hasn't been seen on the Hill since March, I'd say he is not up to representing his constituents.

The late Rep. John Dingell, Jr. was so infirmed at age 88 (59 years in Congress) that a young man had to wheel his chair into the chamber and stay with him as he told the young man Yay or Nay to signify his vote on a bill. His head was nearly at his knees as he voted.

As one of those constituents I can say that is somewhat true. What has hurt him is the secretive nature of what he is doing. Not even those who are supposed to be in the know, know what he is suffering from.

Would be nice if a lot of others weren’t present for voting in Congress.

“They say two things that don’t change are death and taxes. Death stays more or less the same but taxes go up whenever Congress is in session”.

Whatever it is, it apparently doesn’t even allow Kean to post a video on X or Instagram or TikTok.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this is a substance abuse treatment situation.

He should resign.

Too much uncertainty and secrecy with this guy.

Should be no-call, no-show, no job. Like most other places of employment.

Only regular citizens are expected to slave away show up for work. These clowns continuously do this.

Rep. Frederica Wilson, Rep. Kay Granger[retired now] and Tom Kean Jr. have shown how much contempt parties have for America. Those are only a few of the recent ones.

This is ridiculous. It's 20-freaking-26. Representatives should be able to cast a vote on a secure connection wherever they are, whether they're in-person or not.

I think this is pretty obvious to just about everyone, but I suspect Congress-critters hate the idea because they see the day when they'll have the option of staying in their home districts to vote rather than constantly traveling to Washington DC like it's 1789 or something. Goodbye being far away from those pesky constituents, goodbye after-hours booze and babes.

And then his filthy, ugly, screeching commie wife took the seat after he croaked. And his scumbag father Dingell Sr. started the whole mess. Arguably the biggest stain in the history of our state. The two Conyers Commies aren’t far behind...

What a narcissistic, selfish jerk. People like that should be expelled from Congress.

That’s a not so subtle reminder that “senator” and “senile” share the same root word in Latin.

"Kean said the illness doesn't impact his cognitive health..."

I think we can safely rule out hemorrhoids.
