Cooper holds 9-point edge over Whatley in latest US Senate poll

Former Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper holds a 9-point lead over Republican Michael Whatley in North Carolina’s open US Senate race, according to a new poll commissioned by the elections-integrity group RightCount and released earlier this month.

The survey, conducted by Opinion Diagnostics, found 50% of registered North Carolina voters supporting Cooper, compared to 41% for Whatley, with 8% undecided.

An earlier poll commissioned by Healthier United and conducted March 8-9 — days after both candidates clinched their party nominations — showed a wider 18-point Cooper lead. A March 13-14 survey from Public Policy Polling, a Democratic-aligned firm, found the race within the margin of error at 47% to 44%.

Cooper carried Democrats by 87 points, while Whatley led Republicans by 79 points, in the new RightCount poll. Cooper had a 15-point edge among unaffiliated voters. Whatley led Cooper by 19 points among voters 65 and older, and Cooper led in every region of the state except the Charlotte area. Other recent surveys have found similar results, including a High Point University poll released in late April that put Cooper ahead 50% to 42%. A Carolina Journal poll conducted March 22-23 by Harper Polling found Cooper’s support at 49% to 41% for Whatley.

Cooper has name recognition whilst Whatley does not. Cooper also had two terms as Governor of NC that gives him lots of support by the younger voters of the state who remember him as such. He is also heavily supported by the Lame Stream media throughout the state.

Trump is going to have to get involved in this one. I would hope to see him holding multiple rallies in NC this election season.

The midterms will be interesting. And by interesting, I mean a trouncing.

And who will you be rooting for? It’s hard to tell with some of you Trump haters. FYI, I don’t think it’ll be a trouncing on either side because Dems are running out of money since the NGOs started getting shut down.

I live in Charlotte so can say without a doubt that Whatley does not appear to be campaigning. If he is, he might be relying on TV ads or something old-fashioned like that. Far as I know, he isn't working social media. He doesn't seem to be traveling the state campaigning personally. Again, if he is, his campaign is somehow passing me by and I'm a pretty aware Republican.

Whatley has cut the polling lead in half. Let’s be more optimistic here.

Whatley’s campaign needs to tie him to Trump’s 2024 victory as well as Trump’s 2020 victory in NC. As the North Carolina Republican Party Chairman in 2020, he prevented the Democrats from stealing North Carolina, unlike PA, GA, AZ, WI and MI. He needs to really sell that. Just attacking Cooper and the Democrats isn’t enough. He needs a message something like this:

“Hi, I’m Michael Whatley. I know how to fight for North Carolinians and win. In the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election, I faced partisan activist groups who wanted North Carolina to count mail in ballots sent and received after election day. I said “no”, and prevented the will of North Carolinians from being hi-jacked by out of state activists who didn’t want your vote to count. Send me to Washington and I’ll make sure that North Carolina’s voice is never ignored.”

Can Cooper be responsible for the death of that beautiful girl from Ukraine? What about FEMA under Biden? Are peoples memories that short or does Cooper qualify as a pretty boy?

That's not going to work.

Whatley's only chance is to have a Willie Horton's style commercial and find a way to make it "viral".

Roy Cooper is weak on crime. So that's his only opening.

Besides 2020 is old news.

No one cares.

Not enough people understand that you can no longer pick by individual candidate anymore. When you vote for a rat you are voting for the whole agenda. The tranny’s, the climate con the race baiting all of it. The party demands 100% lockstep. The dummies seem to be clueless to this new reality.

Yep it's like voting for a Communist.

They have one, that girl stabbed on the train

Whatley should be replaying that over & over

But he won't, better to be a gracious loser than be called a racist.

I wouldn’t be so sure about that. The base certainly cares. And if Whatley were to tie it in with the START Act and contrast himself with Cooper on their support for it, it could have an effect. The START Act is an 80/20 issue.
