Bass, Raman Left Sputtering As Spencer Pratt Brings Savage 'Reality' Star Power to LA Mayoral Debate
Red State ^ | May 07, 2026 | Bob Hoge

Posted on 05/07/2026 5:32:31 AM PDT by Red Badger

I admit, I didn’t know a lot about Los Angeles Republican mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt. I have never seen the MTV show that made him famous, The Hills, and frankly, I assumed that a reality star was not a serious candidate to be the chief executive of the second most populous city in the nation.

I fully remember, however, a grade teacher exhorting me back in the day, “Do not assume.” You make an “ass” out of “u” and “me.”

I wholeheartedly admit that my bias was misplaced, because as I’ve now seen in numerous bombshell ads and interviews, Pratt is no lightweight, and is in fact, a powerful voice with a firm grasp of the issues plaguing the City of Angels. He’s called out the powers that be, and showed on Wednesday night during the mayoral debate that he’s a far better answer to the city’s decline than failed Democrat incumbent mayor Karen Bass or democratic socialist extremist candidate Nithya Raman.

Pratt watched his home burn to the ground — along with his parents’ residence — not due to climate change, but due to the ineptitude of California officials across the spectrum.

He brought some serious reality to the discussion, and frankly embarrassed Bass and Raman’s endless progressive posturing, which has led the city to ruin:

Spencer Pratt just DESTROYED Nithya Raman who was trying to convince LA that he and Karen Bass are teaming up against her because they have a better chance against each other.

Pratt: "First off, Mayor Bass and I are definitely not working together. I blame this person for burning my house and my parents' house and my town and my neighbors down. I am not working with Mayor Bass."

"Second off, if I wanna run against anybody, it would be the councilmember who is terrible. Mayor Bass has at least been a mayor for almost 4 years and has, as she talked about earlier, the unions, all the unions endorse Mayor Bass. Do you think it's easier to run against the incumbent mayor with all the unions or a random city council member who's been a failure for 6 years? I would MUCH RATHER run against Councilwoman Raman! Thank you very much."

There were many artful moments by Pratt that we could discuss, but I think what showed me that he is truly talented is that he came across as reasonable. Here he is, a white man going up against two far-left women of color, and as we’ve seen from the likes of Kamala Harris, they are just waiting to pounce on the theme of “misogyny” and “racism.” Yet, he stayed polite throughout, and even when he absolutely blasted them for their failures, he did so with respect and without any nastiness. Sure, he was tough — deservedly so — but he never descended into unhinged anger or vitriol.

How about you just come with me and see what’s really going on, he asked Raman:

Pratt brought reality to the debate, while Nithya and Karen just seemed to pretend that all was cool and extensive mayhem hadn’t occurred on their watch. I have no idea whether he will win this race (of course, I hope he does), but whatever the outcome, he has proven that he is a force to be reckoned with.

Here he is, a white man going up against two far-left women of color,

forget it Jake, it’s Chinatown.

Spence is clearly Jake, and all of LA and all of California has become Chinatown.

They don’t call it a death spiral for no good reason.

With these two sentences, he destroyed both of these dumb bitches.

I never heard of this guy and never saw his tv series, but he sure as hell won this debate.

In LA, I don't know if the ballot stuffers care about debates.

I’m also hoping for a Pratt victory, but Democrats are The Borg. They’re a collective of hate and far-Left policies. Hard to get any of them to break rank. There is hope, though, this time around. The devastating fires (and the Dems’ weak response), homelessness, rampant crime, high gas prices, and back-breaking taxes are on the minds of all Californians. Will they do anything about it? We’ll see.

A couple days ago I was an exhibitor at a building materials trade show. One of my colleagues pointed out a guy heading our way who was the star of a home repair TV show. My friend was all excited, took a photo with the guy and everything.

Then he asked me to talk to hm about some of our products. I said “I’ve never seen your show so I’m not all starstruck about this.”

We all got a good laugh and went about our business.

Hes STILL living in a trailer/camper after his house burned down beczuse he cant rebuild beczuse of bass and her feckless governing. That “Should” be z powerful campaign adva tage for him as many calfiornians who lost their loved ones znd homes were pretty upset with bass and how she handled the whole situation, and how she lied and fought pres Trump instead of sorking with him to restore people’s homes after such devastating tragedies.

I HOPE cali has had enough finally and elects this fella.

Your comment mirror my first thoughts as well. It is possible that CA gets a new guv who has an ‘R’ after his name but he would be neutered from day one by the legislature. Anything he proposes will be unanimously voted down or ignored completely ... unless it is a new tax of course. He may as well ask for the salary he would be paid during his term up front and then take his wife on an around the world cruise.

I like the ad where Pratt shows the luxury digs of Ramen and Bass -then shows the tent where he (Pratt) is staying on his former home that was burned to the ground in Pacific Palisades - a year and a half after the fire.

Unfortunately, Los Angeles is deep, deep, deep blue - Bass won over the FAR more capable candidate Rick Caruso, so I do not hold out much hope for the upcoming election as far as a Republican winning.

The curry-infused communist Raman has NO BUSINESS anywhere near a political office of any kind.

Unfortunately, Pratt is exactly the type of candidate who gets a massive amount of buzz on rightwing sites like Redstate that does not translate into votes. The rightwing sites start citing anecdotal accounts of liberals who have “had enough and are going to vote Republican for the first time.” That’s all they are - anecdotal accounts. When the election comes, the Democrat machine wipes out the Republican novelty candidate.

Unfortunately, there’s zero chance of anyone sensible getting elected mayor of LA, and even if there were the real power there lies with the Board of Supervisors who rule their county fiefdoms like feudal lords.

He needs some allies in the state government to make it work. It would be a deal with the devil, e.g. unions probably.

I saw s clip of this today in Chicks On The Right.

One of the women said something really stupid about him, and he responded with body language and facial expressions. It was something like Chevy Chase to Jane Curtin in SNL when she wasn’t looking. Hilarious.
