Democratic senator Sherrod Brown and Republican senator Jon Husted won their party’s nominations in Ohio’s primary elections on Tuesday, according to the Associated Press – teeing them up for what is expected to be a high-profile and expensive Senate race in November’s midterm elections.
Husted ran unopposed, while Brown had a single opponent whom he handily outraised.
The veteran politicians are standing in a special election to be decided in the 3 November midterms that will determine who serves the remainder of the six-year term JD Vance won in 2022, before becoming vice-president last year.
Husted was appointed by Mike DeWine, Ohio’s Republican governor, to take over for Vance, while Brown, a former three-term senator, is seeking to make a comeback after losing his re-election bid in 2024.
Ohio’s Senate seat is one of four that Chuck Schumer, the Senate’s Democratic minority leader, has prioritized in the party’s bid to retake control of the chamber, which appeared to be a long shot after Donald Trump won election two years ago, but seems increasingly attainable as the president’s approval ratings slump.

Also, they're calling him a senator already in the opening paragraph
Very confusing. How do two Senators run against each other?
Yes it confused me as well. He lost his seat the other year to Moreno
That struck me too, but I think the official protocol is you use the last (or maybe highest?) office the person held, that wasn't uniquely held by a single person.
So for example Brown would be properly addressed as Senator Brown, since there are 100 senators, but Bill would be Governor Clinton, since there is only one President.
If anyone knows the rules of protocol, please correct any errors!
“Great. So this ranting loser Brown could be back if Ohio “swings”.”
The action in Iran has not had good messaging. Add to that the price of gas and other costs rising and it looks like a tough hill to climb for Husted.
Coming from Brown, I’m sure it’s a lie, but Brown has been running an ad claiming Husted took a lot of money from Epstein.
I’m sure people are receiving the messages you are worried about. But what a stinking pile of lying Democrat crap.
The price of gas which any Democrat government is going to seek to increase. A war involving a nuclear threat to America which any Democrat government is going to make worse. Nonsense about Epstein which the Trump Administration has released information whereas all Democrat Administrations covered it up.
Unfortunately you are lost in the LIE storm which is the leftist media in our country.
Could be yeah or they missed “former” out
I didn’t want to edit their slop
It has put me in a bad mood the prospect of seeing him back. I agree with you. He’s going to capitalize as much as possible.
Well $4.80 for a gallon of gas will do that. Plus Ohio has had twenty years of Democrat lite Rhinoism. Why wouldn't they vote for the real thing?
Brown is a former Senator. The other guy replaced Vance and is running for “his own” term now.
So, they are both “Senators” but Brown should be called “Former Senator” in this context.
Thanks.
Trump-backed candidates take out GOP incumbents in Indiana,
dominate Ohio primary ......... in big night for president

President Trump proved to be a kingmaker in the Indiana and Ohio Republican primaries Tuesday night, where his seal of approval propelled several GOP candidates to landslide victories.
In Indiana, Trump’s revenge campaign against incumbent state senators who torpedoed his push last year to redraw the Hoosier state’s congressional boundaries was largely successful – with the president’s preferred candidates winning five of six contests. A potential sixth victory for a Trump-endorsed candidate was still too close to call late Tuesday. “Everyone in Indiana politics should have learned an important lesson today: President Trump is the single most popular Republican among Hoosier voters,” Sen. Jim Banks (R-Ind.) said in a statement.
“Indiana is a conservative state, and we deserve conservatives in our State Senate who have a pulse on Republican voters,” he added. Indiana Republican Gov. Mike Braun, who staunchly supported the failed redistricting effort, called it a “historic night for Indiana.”
“[R]epublicans stood with me and President Trump to nominate some great America First conservatives,” Braun wrote on X. “I look forward to winning big in November and serving Hoosiers with this team in the statehouse!” The victories by Trump-backed candidates were decisive. I wish Trump could have held back on the actions against Iran until after the mid-terms.
Yeah that was poor writing as they made it seem like he was currently a senator which made no sense 2 current senators fighting over one seat. Buried in the article is that the Democrat Brown, lost his re-election bid in 2024 so that makes him an ex-senator as of now.
Brown has launched a smear campaign tying Husted to “an associate of Epstein.” Smells of desperation to me. Nobody but a small hard core gives a sh*t about the long dead Epstein anymore, and they are already in the rat camp.
Husted is good. In most years, I think he’d beat Brown. He still should. I just hope the top of the ticket in Ohio doesn’t drag him down.
Brown will lose by about 4.
I think Trump had a narrow window where he could act forcefully, and he took it. China had been sending Iran weapons. That was a tip off. It was a now or maybe never situation.
Yes, I realize that is was an exigent issue to resolve right away. But wish it could have been delayed.
