The U.S. Supreme Court on April 29 limited the use of race-based redistricting in a legal challenge to Louisiana’s congressional map.
The nation’s highest court ruled 6–3 in Louisiana v. Callais that race could not be used when drawing boundaries for the state’s electoral districts.
The case rests on whether a lower court-ordered creation of a second black-majority congressional district in Louisiana was constitutional. A federal district judge had ordered the state to create the second district to comply with the anti-discrimination provisions of the federal Voting Rights Act.

Haven’t read it, but if you have a situation where the raised-based nature of the redistricting was ordered by a court, you’d have a good case. It gets much more difficult when it’s just gerrymandering by a legislature.
If one of Biden’s new district judges orders racial redistricting and that order is appealed who knows, but that might take a while.
And before Democrats complain about that, they should be reminded that the entire New England region of the country, despite having 40% Republican voters, doesn't have a single Republican representative in the House. Not one.
A good, solid constitutional ruling that also happens to hurt Democsrats.

“Haven’t read it, but if you have a situation where the raised-based nature of the redistricting was ordered by a court, you’d have a good case.”
I live in one. 100 yards inside the line to be represented by a corrupt, low IQ, useless black democrat. Hopefully this will be corrected before the next election.
I couldn’t get into the article, but I suppose I can guess who the 3 are who wanted to use race as a factor in redistricting.
I think districts should be largely based on county boundaries although I’m sure there would need to be exceptions in certain high population areas.
Those racists!!!!!!!/s
Similarly, Democrats complain about mostly imaginary racial "dog whistles" - i.e. implying that every statement from a conservative has racial innuendo, whereas Democrats don't bother with innuendo or "dog whistles" - they blatantly appeal to the racialism and bigotry of non-whites towards white people. I don't believe that Donald Trump or J.D. Vance used the phrase "white people" once in a speech, whereas Democrats bray nonstop about "people of color", "African Americans" and "LatinX people" (whatever the hell "LatinX" might be).
if you have a situation where the raised-based nature of the redistricting was ordered by a court, you’d have a good case [against it].”
Let the games begin again.
Once again the dim wit Kagan et al are pushing race and liberal / communist agendas.
Who da racist?
Blacks can win in white districts if they’re Republican.
How do we know this is a deep gut punch to the rodents? This thread opened 2 1/2 hours ago and not a snide remark not a yeah but, and a it doesn’t really say that from the Surrender Monkeys. They are waiting for the Bat Signal and Dog Whistled instructions from Chuckie.
Great news...and today Florida is doing a new map that will increase Republicans by 4 if not 5...
Race-based districting produces Congressmen who can be extreme because they never have to worry about losing their seat. Otherwise we might get black Congressmen who are more mainstream in their outlook.
“ Otherwise we might get black Congressmen who are more mainstream in their outlook.”
In general, gerrymandering does this for all Congressmen. If the districts had to be compact, as well as continuous, Congressmen would have to care about more people than just the 55% that are completely on his side while he can ignore the rest.
We really need a constitutional amendment about this. Natural and political boundaries such as counties should be included in the determination of legislative districts. The people in an entire Congressional district should have as much in common as possible.
So is this the flood gate opening that we were all counting on to allow redistricting or racially gerrymandered districts..or no?
Bryon Daniel is one...another was Gary Franks from Connecticut 6th District in the 1990s.
