Former President Barack Obama claimed Sunday “details about the motives” of accused White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooter Cole Allen were still unknown despite the gunman confessing he was targeting top Trump officials in a raving manifesto.

“Although we don’t yet have the details about the motives behind last night’s shooting at the White House Correspondents Dinner, it’s incumbent upon all of us to reject the idea that violence has any place in our democracy,” Obama wrote on X Sunday afternoon.

“It’s also a sobering reminder of the courage and sacrifice that U.S. Secret Service Agents show every day. I’m grateful to them – and thankful that the agent who was shot is going to be okay.”

Questions of motive are annoying to me. I really only care about laws broken and law enforcement. Couldn’t care if he was motivated by hate or by insanity. I dont have a problem with police looking for motive, but the ‘lack of a motive’ argument is just there to distract from the crime.

Motive to me would seem more important if you only have circumstantial evident of a crime.
