A US official denied on Saturday that Washington had agreed to release frozen assets belonging to Iran, contradicting earlier reports.
Reuters had reported that the United States agreed to release Iranian funds held in Qatar and other foreign banks, citing a senior Iranian source, which described the move as a goodwill step ahead of talks.

In case you hadn't heard, since last night, there have been reports that the U.S. had released over 6 Billion $$ in frozen funds from Qatari and possibly S. Korean banks. It sounded like a repeat of Obama, so I seriously doubted it. I hope this denial is official.

Maybe we planted the story to get the Iranians to go to the meeting?

I don’t think you can negotiate with these people.

Maybe the Iranian politicians needed to make up a reason for the IRGC hardliners to let them go to Pakistan

The regime had already been posting that they wouldn’t show up unless we released their money. So, they probably started the rumor to make it look like the US caved.
BTW - the head of this Iranian “delegation” is an IRGC hardliner.
Don’t be fooled by the WH “less radical” description.

It was circulating so much that Reuters picked it up.
It had to be officially denied. Tho I’m sure some won’t believe the denial.

"some won’t believe the denial."
They're incorrigible. They don't understand that "No" means no.
