NEW YORK -- Amazon is slapping a 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge on third-party sellers using its platform starting later this month amid a spike in fuel prices since the war in Iran started.
The temporary charge is effective April 17 for many of the sellers who use Amazon’s fulfillment services, the online behemoth confirmed to The Associated Press in an email Thursday.
“Elevated costs in fuel and logistics have increased the cost of operating across the industry,” Amazon said in the emailed statement.
The Seattle-based company said it has absorbed these increases so far but similar to other major carriers, when costs remain elevated, it implements temporary surcharges to partially recover these costs. It noted the charge is “meaningfully” lower than surcharges applied by other major carriers.

This is not a new thing.
Good idea, I’m thinking of adding a 3.5% fuel surcharge for driving my wife when she requests it.
More gouging. Did they have a surcharge when fuel was more expensive under Biden? Did they lower the delivery costs when oil was 60 bucks a barrell?
Amazon isn’t what it was even 3 years ago.
Good point
Amazon using price gouging to piss of Americans about the war. They charge third parties ridiculous % already and then undercut them. I had an online retail business and laughed at the prices Amazon charged for using their platform.
So much for all of those electric vans they bought.
Good point!
Anything to try to tank Trump’s growing economy.
They ALWAYS raise the price of gas too right before vacation season starts.
Gougers should be FINED.
You have seen the price of a barrel of oil and how much it’s increased, right?
I don’t recall prices going down when gas was 60 dollars a barrel.
They treat their sellers terribly.
I find eBay to be much much better.
Yes.
In April of 2022, Amazon imposed a 5% fuel charge.
Temporary!
And should not be an excuse to gouge consumers.
Just like the gouging that goes on during the summer travel season!
Every year just like clockwork the gouging begins just because people take vacations during the summer.
What growing economy, the stats I have seen indicate a serious recession coming.
We may be paying high gas prices for the next 2 to 3 years and oil prices will effect everything in the PetroChemical markets also, like plastics.
By November the agriculture prices will be up significantly due to fertilizer shortages and costs. Inflation is coming back even worse than it was under Biden.
The entire ramifications of Trump’s war will be felt for sometime even after he leaves office.
I hate Amazon, but I use them.
I live in Hawaii and everybody
sticks it to us needlessly.
Probably because our local
Democrat politicians stick it
to us more than the Mainlanders
do.
Ebay can often be far cheaper on
item costs, but Ebay shiping costs
most always make items more expensive
than Amazon.
Hawaii is insignificant population
wise in the US, so we suffer in
silence.
Were I younger I’d set up a small
Ebay like company in China, buy a ship,
Get my Masters license, and just ship
direct to Hawaii and back.
Take orders fill a container and ship it.
direct to Hawaii.
Take Cattle and other Hawaii
products on the trip back( My island has
Americas second largest cattle ranch.
most all grass fed and grass is free).
But I’m old and my Mandarin is pretty
rusty.
Doom and gloom from pirate troll.
Ok. Good to know they did. Thanks.

So businesses should take a loss for……?
‘ Just like the gouging that goes on during the summer travel season!

Supply, demand, you know, capitalism?
You a communist?
When in doubt, gouge the consumer harder.
