Liberal Group Warns That Trump Could Have Two More Supreme Court Picks
The New York Times ^ | 3rd April 2026 | Reid Epstein

Posted on 04/03/2026 4:27:32 AM PDT by Cronos

Demand Justice, a liberal organization, has mounted robust efforts to block President Trump’s appointees to the Supreme Court in the past, but never before a vacancy existed.

For now, none of the nine Supreme Court justices have announced plans to retire, and Mr. Trump has no looming opportunity to keep stocking the court with younger conservative justices.

That isn’t stopping Demand Justice from preparing a multimillion-dollar effort to oppose potential Trump Supreme Court appointees before they happen — with a warning that Mr. Trump could be replacing two justices this year.

The preparations come at a moment when Democrats are feeling optimistic about their ability to break Republican control of Congress, and when there is growing fear in some corners of the party that Mr. Trump will seek to install loyalist justices who could sit on the court for decades.

Josh Orton, the president of Demand Justice, said the project would cost $3 million to start and $15 million more if vacancies occurred and Mr. Trump nominated a successor to the court — most likely for Clarence Thomas or Samuel A. Alito Jr., the two oldest justices. Justice Thomas is 77 years old, and Justice Alito is 76.

...“If you think that Trump is willing to leave two of the three justices he thinks are most loyal on the court in their 80s past when he leaves office, you are not paying attention,” Mr. Orton said in an interview Thursday. “There is no way that Donald Trump and Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito would ever commit the fundamental miscalculation about power that we saw from Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Barack Obama and we as a movement.”

Well if Thomas and Alito are replaced this term, let’s hope their replacements are better than the three Trump nominated in his first term.

With any luck, he’ll have 3 more picks. Ideally Thomas and Alito who are both old, will retire and he can replace them with some younger rock ribbed Strict Constructionists.

and then there is the matter of the Wide Latina who has Type 1 Diabetes, is 71 years old, and who keeps getting fatter and fatter. Hopefully she “steps down” and is replaced by someone Trump nominates.....

Conservative control of America’s supreme court is the only thing between America being a free and prosperous country and America being a socialist sh*thole.

If Thomas wants to step down and retire Trump should just let him pick his replacement and nominate that person. He should know a few good lawyers who would do a great job

I thought for certain that Justice Thomas would announce his retirement this year—not necessarily because he’s too old or doesn’t think or speak brilliantly on legal matters, but because the window for replacing him with another conservative Justice is open, but could become decidedly more closed should Democrats somehow re-take the Senate in November.

Every demo alive wants to add 4 justices to the Court.
Republicans should have ALREADY added those justices.
There is still time.

My guess is that if we lose the Senate in November, Thomas would retire and be replaced during the lame duck session before the new Senate is seated in January.

If the midterms are a defeat for the Republicans it won’t matter how many picks President Trump has, the Liberal circus will be ugly and constant. It’ll be time to start prepping again.

After the mid-terms, Trump may still be in office, but it is a toss-up as to whether he will still hold a majority, necessary for a somewhat hassle-free confirmation of his candidates. He really, really, REALLY needs to get a handle on the costs of fuel and food stuffs as most poll-goers, sorry to say, will not be voting on the joys of a mullah-free Iran.

I believe Biden was going to add 8. They were all picked out and ready to go Manchin and Sinema prevented it.

Well, that is a truthful statement. The USSC must certainly be a Constitutional stronghold since that is the whole basis for America. Some on the COurt have done well protecting this idea & others maybe less so. Protecting the constitutionality of America is primary. Any justice thinking otherwise should not be on that Court.
