Washington — President Trump signed an executive order Tuesday requiring states to impose stricter mail-in voting rules and directing his administration to create a list of confirmed U.S. citizens who are eligible to vote in each state.
The additional requirements, made without any action by Congress, are all but certain to face challenges in the courts. It's not clear whether or how the order will affect the midterm primary elections, which are already underway in many states.
"The cheating on mail-in voting is legendary," the president said in the Oval Office ahead of the signing. He said requiring voters to show identification and proof of citizenship will be issues for another time.
The order requires the newly confirmed Secretary of Homeland Security, Markwayne Mullin, to create a list of U.S. citizens eligible to vote in each state, using data from the Social Security Administration, a White House official told CBS News. It also says the U.S. Postal Service may only send absentee ballots to people on each state's federally prepared approved mail-in ballot list. There will be one envelope per ballot.

Wait, wait, wait. I thought the Supreme Court recently heard oral arguments about this issue. Well, maybe just the late arriving ballots.
I’m a lot more concerned about ballot drop boxes than mail-in ballots.
Obviously the EO is unenforceable but the action highlights the issue and creates a bit of chaos and disruption as Democrats will have to expend resources to have it enjoined.
Just a mere reminder about how screwed we are.

The past 15 months never mention the FEC/HAVA. The FEC
Federal Election Commission has significant power over elections and is at the root of most voting problems... due primarily to the way it controls money “given” to state and local election boards if the local boards do what the FEC/HAVA pays them to do.
What relation does Trump have to FEC/HAVA?
Why is it never mentioned in stories like this?

Is Vegas giving odds on 'how many hours after signing the EO' will a TDS judge impose an injunction? I'd guess w/in 24 hours.

Ballot drop boxes should be at the polling places ONLY with a camera showing the drop. But before you drop it, it has to be time stamped which is an easy mechanics/electronics combo.
That’s all we have here in WA, it’s all by mail.
Military ballots have to be treated a little differently should circumstances arise. BUT they too should be time stamped when let and when they arrive.

San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Captain says voting records show people outside of the country, in Pakistan, are allowed to vote in the California elections.
The Sheriff’s Captain revealed this during a press conference in Sept 2025.
As he should. As good as Trump’s intentions are such an action is not within his authority as president.
