WASHINGTON — In a blow to LGBTQ rights, the Supreme Court on Tuesday ruled that Colorado's ban on conversion therapy aimed at youths struggling with their sexual orientation or gender identity violates the free speech rights of a conservative Christian therapist.
The 8-1 decision in favor of therapist Kaley Chiles on her claim brought under the Constitution's First Amendment is likely to have national implications — more than 20 states have similar laws. It could also have an impact on other forms of medical treatment that involve speech.
Writing for the majority, Justice Neil Gorsuch said that "the First Amendment stands as a shield against any effort to enforce orthodoxy in thought or speech in this country."
Colorado’s law “does not just ban physical interventions,” Gorsuch wrote. It also “censors speech based on viewpoint.”
In deciding the case, the court embraced Chiles’ argument that the Colorado law banning conversion therapy regulates speech, not conduct, as Colorado had argued. As such, the measure is not like other health care regulations that focus on conduct, the court concluded. The case, decided on the global Transgender Day of Visibility, will now return to the lower courts.

Liberal Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson was the sole dissenter. Surprise, surprise...
I stopped reading at “LGBQT rights.”
“In a blow to LGBTQ rights”
ugh F’n NBC. How is this a blow to tranny rights? Exactly which “right” is gone because of this ruling?
What today's activists are doing is an act of misdirection whereby a therapist talking a child out of getting castrated (after being indoctrinated by teachers) is called "conversion therapy". That is what they want to be illegal.
Instead of “more than 20 states” why don’t they say how many states? They could look it up. I did.
“In a blow to LGBTQ rights...”
Ever notice it’s always framed that way? Never as a good thing “for the children”, as liberals are fond of saying.
I’m so used to leftist journo-lism, I just don’t even think about it anymore.
Don’t you just lurv the bias that NBC shows? So NBC really believes that the false premise of “gay rights” matters more than the concrete reality of First Amendment rights. Scary thing is that is what most of the Left believes. They are of the opinion that First Amendment rights are a danger to gays and other minorities because it fails to protect them from people disagreeing with or criticizing them. Worse it even allows for such disagreement and criticism.
“LGBTQ rights”
Especially glad that the particularly mentally ill “TQ” do not get special rights over the rest of us.
We might also see a few less mentally ill fags that parade as females in sport competition.
Still hasn’t figured out what a woman is, I see.
Thank you for explaining that. Based on the title, it seemed the opposite was happening, which led to my confusion on the SCOTUS 8-1 ruling.
There is no such thing as “LGBTQ rights”...but these psycho-perverts do need serious mental heath therapy.
1st amendment wins. Starmer is angry.
So, if I understand this correctly....
It is impossible and cruel to try and restore normal sexual function for someone who was most likely exposed to unnatural trauma as a child but it is natural and kind to cut off a child’s genitals or breasts.
This makes total sense.
This is excellent news as it allows people with persistent, unwanted sexual fantasies to treat them, rather than simply suffer with them or worse — indulge them.
“In a blow to LGBTQ rights”?
FU, NBC!
“Exactly which “right” is gone because of this ruling?”
The Liberal right to censor people whose opinions and actions they don’t morally agree with.
