Nigel Farage U-turns on his Iran war position
Financial Times ^ | Mar 10, 2026 | Anna Gross, George Parker, and Jennifer Williams

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has U-turned on his position on the UK’s involvement in the Iran war amid growing evidence the British public opposes the US-Israeli offensive that has driven up the price of fuel.

Last week, Farage said that “the gloves need to come off” and the UK should “do all we can to support the operation — I make that perfectly, perfectly clear”.

He added that “we need to accept that we are part of this with the Americans and the Israelis” and has called Sir Keir Starmer’s decision not to back the US from the start as “frankly pathetic”.

But on Tuesday, Farage set out a revised position, saying: “I, as leader, am saying to you, if we can’t even defend Cyprus, let’s not get ourselves involved in another foreign war.”

The U-turn comes as new polling for the More in Common think-tank found that only a quarter of the British public support the UK enabling offensive action or joining strikes on Iran, while three-quarters prefer either no involvement or strictly defensive support...

Farage also warned on Tuesday that it was “vital” from a political standpoint for US President Donald Trump to end the war quickly, adding that the US and Israel “must remove the nuclear threat — if they don’t do that, they will have failed”.

His comments, which came just a few days after he failed to secure an audience with Trump at Mar-a-Lago club in Florida, appear to contradict the US president, who said on Monday that he could call the war effort a “tremendous success now”, but had decided to go even further.

Yes, he is pathetic. Sir Steir Karma has the karma of a steer.

He's two beans short of a proper British breakfast and some wonder if he even has a banger.

Farage is far better than Starmer but he still reminds me of Trey Gowdy until I see some real action from him.

Well somebody on that side of the pond, the usual suspects, are helping Ukraine destroy Russia’s largest oil fields and refineries this past week. A really F’d up time to raise the price of oil, and put all the blame on Trump. How nefarious those Brits are. E should be done with them and NATO. Seriously.

While I agree with their stance on immigration and a few other things, the Euro-right as exemplified by Farage or Orban or Le Pen in many ways is flat out neurotic, or, sometimes, delusional.

In fact, finding Euros of most stripes who are not politically schizo, or, just consistently nuts, is fairly tough. There are a few; a few even sometimes comment on FR. But, I don’t think they are more than 10-15% of the population in most Euro countries. :-(

If you spent last winter in Kiev (etc.) without heat or electricity, you probably don’t give a poop about high oil prices hurting some American, or, Trump.

I’m not saying that’s good for us (the gasoline prices alone are killin’ my family), but, I can understand where the Ukies are coming from. I also don’t think that at this point the Ukies need the Brits to drone Russian refineries. People underestimate the Ukies, when in fact they were sort of the heart of the old USSR’s defense industry.

Strictly speaking, whacking Russian refineries should make MORE Russian crude available, unless the Ukies have hit crude oil infrastructure? I haven’t followed that much the last few days - computer and car problems have been overwhelming me. :-(

Stick both hands into a moslem cesspool like the UK, grab some crap, and see which hand smells the worse...

“helping Ukraine destroy Russia’s largest oil fields and refineries this past week. A really F’d up time to raise the price of oil”

Crude oil is normally the product exported. Exported crude oil is not refined in Russia.

*****

He's not entirely wrong.

However, there are other ways the UK could help in this issue with Iran.

You're accusing Ukraine again of raising the price of oil?

Oil was consistently at $60-70 / bbl. for months leading up to Feb. 28th, when the US launched its attacks on Iran

If Ukraine's attacks on Russia really raised the oil price, it would have shown up long before now ... all these recent spikes are due solely to action in the Strait of Hormuz, and Ukraine didn't create that

Besides, didn't you Russia Cheerleaders say for years that Ukraine's drone attacks were "mere pinpricks" that "would have no effect"? lol
