Here come the morality police: About 1-in-3 people under the age of 30 say being extremely wealthy is “morally wrong.” Just 19% say it’s acceptable, and another near-50% don’t think it’s an issue one way or another.
That data comes from the latest Pew Research Center poll on morality. Compare Gen-Z to Boomers, and data becomes even more stark. Only 10% of those over 65 say it’s morally wrong to be extremely wealthy.
But that checks out. Those over 65 have enjoyed one of the greatest growth engines in human history, post World War II America. Cheap education, cheap homes they bought in the 1970s and 80s, and the power of compound interest have conspired to make Boomers extremely wealthy compared to their grandchildren. That, plus the general trend that if you zoom out far enough, stocks tend to go up-and-to-the-right.
Those over 65 control some 50% of the America’s wealth, according to data from Columbia professor Jeremy Ney. Gen-Z only controls a small fraction. And with rising inflation, and looming white-collar disruption from AI, the affordability crisis is only set to get worse.
So, it’s no wonder that Gen-Z views wealth as morally wrong. Very few of them have it. And even worse, the deck may be stacked against them. Still, it’s worth pointing out this isn’t just envy. Young people are lurching leftward across the globe, even in Scandinavian countries where homes are cheap.
As Bernie Sanders says, it’s the “billionaihs.”

The morons can’t figure out why people need money as long as they have credit cards.
GREAT-—FEWER PEOPLE TO COMPETE WITH IN THE LOTTERY !~!
More precisely, these people are government-school indoctrinated, and they are:
"Moronically Wrong"
And a third of Gen-Z is stupid. Bezos has been a millionaire for almost two decades. Years ago, he could have bought a yacht and sailed around the world eating bon-bons. Instead of taking those profits, he plowed them back into the company to the point were over 250,000+ souls are fed, clothed, and housed by his efforts. The same story is true for other billionaires. Being rich doesn’t make you bad. It helps bootstrap hundreds of thousands of people to make a decent living. The bad people are the ones who cast stones without providing a better way to help thousands of people earn and enjoy the fruits of their labor.
A lot of early-college aged students go through that
‘rejection of all material things’ stage for a while.
I did too, until the bills started coming due.
I could no longer expect my parents to support me, besides, I didn’t want to be anyone’s dependent anymore.

Unless theyre the ones who are rich...
Exactly.
That’s absolutely true.
even a lower middle class Ameican family is “extremely rich” if you judge by worldwide standards. These kids are just to stupid to realize what they are condemning is themselves and their families.

The other 3rd who are extremely rich disagree.
30% of Gen Z are communists
