House Republicans have taken a firm stance in Washington by promising to block Senate-passed legislation until the Senate takes up the SAVE America Act.
The legislation, formally called the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, requires proof of U.S. citizenship for voter registration in federal elections and mandates photo ID at polling places.
Lawmakers pushing the measure say the bill protects election integrity by ensuring that only U.S. citizens may vote in federal elections. President Donald Trump has endorsed the effort and signaled he'll prioritize the legislation once it reaches his desk.
Republican lawmakers leading the effort have framed the strategy as a necessary step to force Senate action. Reps. Brandon Gill (R-Texas) and Anna Paulina (R-Fla.) announced that they'll oppose nearly every Senate-originated bill until the Senate advances the SAVE Act.
“I’ll be voting ‘no’ on all Senate bills – other than DHS funding – until the Senate passes the SAVE America Act,” Rep. Brandon Gill (R-Texas) wrote Friday on the social platform X.
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) also wrote on X that, “The Senate will no longer have legislation passed until the SAVE America Act is passed and on the President’s desk.”
Rep. Derrick Van Orden (R-Wis.) echoed those concerns, arguing that lawmakers should prioritize legislation with strong public support.
Several other Republicans have joined the push, publicly urging Senate leadership to move the bill forward and arguing that voter eligibility verification is a basic requirement for election administration.

Poor Senator Thune. It’s really hard to be a useless GOPe prick these days.
Until it ‘moves’
Hmm. Could they be more vague?
Any republican who wants to have an up or down vote on the SAVE America act without at least the talking filibuster knows that they will not get 60 votes and it will lose. I don’t see how this gets us anywhere. It lets all the RINOs off easy. They will say that they voted for it. They will not mention that they knew it would lose. Typical disgusting republican loser behavior.
Maybe Johnson has figured out that the rat cheating in 24 cost us 20-25 House seats giving him a razor thin majority.
A real GOP Majority Leader would use all the means at his disposal, such as denial of campaign funds, committee chairmanships, and support for primary challengers, to pressure the rinos.
Thune is just protecting Democrat election fraud. I don’t see how he can pretend otherwise.
Who knew you could have gridlock when the “same” party controls the White House, the Senate & the House.
Thank goodness the DC pawn shop owner kept the backbones held back until the GOP came back to redeem their pawn tickets.
Just what the laxative ad said.
In the mean time, House, send over a budget bill to pass on reconciliation to just fund everything at current levels for the next fiscal year - no need for drug out process. Stop giving the Democrats and the media leverage to create a ‘crisis’ narrative in the media. Just get it done.
They had a dog show, now they can have a pony show with horse face Thune as the main event.
Time for VP Vance to take vet the Senate.
It should be until it passes.
The SAVE Act is going to be defeated in the Senate.
It needs 50 votes to pass and they are not there.

I hope that any bill that the Senate passes from now that reaches the President’s desk save a funding bill for the DHS is vetoed. That will require the House and Senate to pass the bill over the President’s veto with a two-thirds majority of each house. (Note: Each such bill will die.) The Senate (and House) will be forced to start from scratch on each such bill...or abandon the proposal in its entirety.
UpChuck Schumer has made a career out of delaying and denying. He has too much time on his hands. Presidential vetoes will cause him to have to do more than b!tch and moan on the floor of the Senate and in the rotunda.
No, funding for DHS, no nothing for the Demoncraps.
Thune will go down in history as a traitor.
Same as when 47 was 45.
