Embattled Texas GOP Rep. Tony Gonzales admitted Wednesday to having had an affair with a married staffer who later committed suicide, calling the affair a "lapse in judgment."
The confession comes the same day Florida GOP Rep. Anna Paulina Luna introduced a censure resolution against Gonzales and the House Ethics Committee opened a probe into the allegations.
Gonzales, who advanced to a runoff in his reelection bid Tuesday, told conservative talk show host Joe Pags in an interview that he “made a mistake” by having the affair and accepts "full responsibility."
“I take full responsibility for those actions. Since then, I’ve reconciled with my wife, Angel. I’ve asked God to forgive me, which he has, and my faith is as strong as ever," Gonzales said. "When you make mistakes like this, you know it’s never easy. It humbles you, but it’s important to kind of work through it all."

This is about the staffer who committed suicide by setting herself on fire.

Agreed.
L
“He should drop out of the race and resign from Congress.”
He has no morals or integrity, so he won’t.
Look, I’m not excusing the affair, but there appears to be more to the suicide than CBS is letting on. The woman told first responders that she tried to kill herself because her husband was having an affair with her best friend. CBS tries to make it seem like the affair was the proximate cause.
She lit herself on fire, he needs to go.
What exactly changed over the last week?
Last week he said he did not have an affair.
This week he says he did have an affair.
The woman who he did not have affair with last week is dead and now he is having an affair with her this week.
“I’ve asked God to forgive me, which he has...”
Really? And you know this exactly HOW?
I think you’re in for a BIG surprise if and when you get to The Pearly Gates.
Hit the bricks, LOSER. A young woman is DEAD due to your SELFISHNESS. America doesn’t need you. Bye-Bye!
Geesh, on the same day the House decided not to reveal who availed themselves of the secret slush fund to cover their little sexcapades.
That old rug has a great big lump of dirt swept under it. 🙄🙄
And people actually believe any of these goobers are going to get serious about the Epstein files?
That may be so, but this woman had to be pretty mentally unstable to set herself on fire. That is not really his fault. He is guilty of an affair (so was she) and many of his fellow Congresscritters have done exactly the same.
I have no reason to like this guy, don’t know him at all, but anyone who did what she did has something pretty wrong going on in the head.
I had thought “Light My Fire” and “our love become a funeral pyre” was made up song stuff.
He SHOULD drop out of the race. BUT, he should finish his Congressional term. We don’t need to be so pure that we don’t need his vote, even if it is tainted. Adultery doesn’t bother dimocrats.
AND, just for the record, adultery is not “a mistake.” It is a sin. It is one of the Big Ten brought down from Mt. Sinai by Moses. People have known this for quite awhile. (It’s #7 on the list.)
What exactly does the phrase “I take full responsibility” mean exactly? Everytime omebody does something, and gets caught, and is guilty as hell, they come out with that and they evidently think it exonerates them.
This wasn’t just adultry. He pressured her for sex until she lit herself on fire.
If Trump asks Paxton to drop out, will he also ask Gonzalez to step aside?
Wow, how manly to wait until after the primary to admit it, although if he were a democrat he’d be up for a profile in courage award….
Was in Congress. No reason to expect "morals" or "integrity."
Comedian Mark Russell: "They did an ethics investigation in Congress. None were found."
She told first responders that she lit herself on fire because her husband was having an affair with her best friend. CBS isn’t reporting the full story here.
Oh please. That is totally ridiculous. She could have just quit working for the guy. LOL
