Per the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Pima County Sheriff’s Office, a person has been detained in connection with the kidnapping of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, the mother of TODAY co-host Savannah Guthrie.
Earlier on Tuesday, the FBI’s elite hostage rescue team was deployed on the ground in Tucson, along with the mobilization of several SWAT teams in multiple counties. This was following the FBI's release of images and video showing a masked individual approaching Guthrie's front door and making efforts to obscure the Nest camera.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department, with assistance from the FBI, has detained an individual for questioning in connection with the abduction of Nancy Guthrie, a law enforcement official briefed on the investigation told ABC News.
The individual was detained in a location south of Tucson, the source said, and law enforcement is preparing to search a location associated with the individual. [...]
The images showed someone wearing a mask, gloves, a backpack and armed with a holstered handgun at the front door of Nancy Guthrie's Tucson-area home around the time investigators suspect she was abducted on Feb. 1.
"[L]aw enforcement has uncovered these previously inaccessible new images showing an armed individual appearing to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie's front door the morning of her disappearance," Patel said in his post.

Over the last eight days, the FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department have been working closely with our private sector partners to continue to recover any images or video footage from Nancy Guthrie’s home that may have been lost, corrupted, or inaccessible due to a variety of factors - including the removal of recording devices. The video was recovered from residual data located in backend systems.
Working with our partners - as of this morning, law enforcement has uncovered these previously inaccessible new images showing an armed individual appearing to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie's front door the morning of her disappearance.

Was he almost to the Mexican border just because bad guys used to flee there?
Or is it his old home ground or the gateway to another country?
He is apparently the “muscle” while the “brains” one is somewhere else, about to be named as they sweat out the truth.
..or he was delivering food with his wife and kids as a DoorDash driver and has nothing to do with Guthrie’s disappearance and we when wake up in the morning, he will have been kicked loose and the investigation will be back to square one.

You just encountered a different moderator when you posted it. Who knows? My post might be taken off the Breaking News section as well later ( even though the title says BREAKING ).
I may have posted to “Breaking” once or twice in my 2 plus decades and every time the post was relegated to “General Chat”.
So I NEVER use “breaking”.
No moderator has ever explained the criteria either in forum or by PM.

I just listened to an interview with his Mother in law. This is a dead end. He’s not the guy.

A friend of associate of the family or person who either worked around the home or knew someone who did.
On another FR thread it’s posted that a body has been found but no further details given.
