Opinion: America’s Christian revival is a hoax
The Hill via MSN ^ | 2/08/2025 | John Mac Ghlionn

For many Americans, spirituality is now something to consume rather than commune around. An individual brand rather than a shared discipline, a playlist rather than a practice. Belief remains, but it has been deinstitutionalized, downloaded, and personalized. No priest, sermon, or parking lot scramble required.

This is where the revival narrative falls apart. What we are seeing is not a return to shared worship, shared discipline, or shared belief, but Christianity detached from its roots and repackaged for mass consumption.

The data confirm this. A recent report from the Cultural Research Center at Arizona Christian University found that the share of Americans identifying as Christian fell from 72 percent in 2020 to 66 percent in 2025. That‘s roughly 15 million adults in just five years. At the same time, the number of Americans claiming no faith rose to nearly 60 million.

A bitter pill, but we need to hear it.

Anyone else who has been skeptical about recent "revival" talk know that much of what this article reveals is true.

Cultures change because of real revivals. This one hasn't even scratched the surface.

IMHO the CINO's (Christian in Name Only) are reducing in number and stating that they're non believers. This is why the leftist "churches" are hemorrhaging members. But we read other reports that the more evangelical churches are growing.

This article by The Hill hopes we don't realize that. It hopes we see overall church attendance declining and how we don't dig between the lines. It's hoping to push a narrative that it's more common to be atheist like the left -- don't be an outsider like the Christians.

Many Christians that I know have pretty much gone underground; we keep to ourselves. It’s no longer safe out there in public, even in America.

Just look at the Christian slaughter going on all around the world. You don’t think that’s coming our way in a bigger way at the rate we’re going?

Page after page after page after page of ‘statistics’ can be had in a simple search:

Young people are coming back to the Lord en masse. Much of the evidence available, mind you, is anecdotal but it is happening and it is growing.

Isn’t “communing” around something called communism? There’s your real hoax.

Not hard to see that the country as a role cannot be in revival. The dirt digger-upers won’t let us forget that. But there are Christians here who won’t quit the fight, just as in ancient Rome.

You can tell the tone of the article when the cover picture shows what appears to be a Catholic priest sitting by himself with a COVID mask on.

I was always skeptical that it was a widespread phenomena. That being said, I do think that there is a strong core of younger people (especially men) who are looking for a return to Christ. This core will influence social mores and laws far outside their minority status. When the light of Christ shines on social ills (especially those caused by secular nihilism), people are compelled to acknowledge the wisdom of our God.

No such thing as Communist-approved Christianity. If you understood anything, you’d surely understand that.

Hilarious because I once worked with a guy that insisted Jesus was against organized churches, and that Sunday worship, instead of Saturday, was due to the influence of the devil.

This guy was hardcore and knew the bible more than almost anyone I ever met. Organized churches really got him worked up. “Jesus is the church!” he would say. That people are really searching for social clubs, not Jesus, when they go to organized churches.

I laugh thinking about how he would have reacted to this article. He probably would have thought Satan influenced it.

If you’re as smart as you think you are you’d understand that Catholicism has bent the knee in China and modified the rules and edicts to comply with Chinese law… over God’s.

Also I’m referring to the leftist version of Christianity that has infested the church where everything is good and allowed if it can be expressed as love.

Belief remains, but it has been deinstitutionalized, downloaded, and personalized. No priest, sermon, or parking lot scramble required.

Judeo-Christianity has been badly served by its priestly class.
They have been intellectually lazy, entitled, and ineffectual.

I have friends from among them, but have no use for them as a whole.

I disagree. Yes, the CINO's are leaving because they didn't "have root" (Matt. 13:5-6)

But there is no real evidence of widespread revival as we saw in the two Great Awakenings during the past two centuries. Those movements change entire towns and governments.

Evil men are waxing worse and worse. And the church largely goes along with them.

Joh 6:65 Then He said, “That is why I said that people can’t come to Me unless the Father gives them to Me.”
Joh 6:66 At this point many of His disciples turned away and deserted Him.
Joh 6:67 Then Jesus turned to the Twelve and asked, “Are you also going to leave?”
Joh 6:68 Simon Peter replied, “Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words that give eternal life.

There are many words for eyes to go to in the above. ALL are important.

But I have found the following worthy of reflection:

to whom would we go?

My response would have been “WHERE else would we go?” The disciples got it right.
