The Trump administration has suggested it is planning to "draw down" federal forces in Minnesota if there is cooperation from officials, after the fatal shootings of two US citizens in the state.
At a press conference in Minneapolis, Homan vowed to continue the immigration enforcement operation, but added he wants "common sense cooperation that allows us to draw down on the number of people we have here".
"We are not surrendering our mission at all. We're just doing it smarter," he said.
The deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti have ignited local protests and public outcry across the country, and led to criticism from lawmakers.
It was not clear how many federal forces might leave the city, or when, raising new questions about how far the Trump administration will scale back its operation after the president said he was seeking to "de-escalate" in Minneapolis.
Homan added: "President Trump wants this fixed, and I'm going to fix it."
The killings of Good and Pretti by agents carrying out Trump's immigration crackdown this month have provoked protests in Minneapolis, public outcry across the US and calls from lawmakers in both parties for some administration officials to be removed.
Democratic Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey have called for a withdrawal of federal agents entirely from the state's capital region. The state has also asked a federal judge to stop "Operation Metro Surge", which involves approximately 3,000 immigration, border patrol and other Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officers.
The administration, meanwhile, has blasted local officials, saying they should work with federal officers and agents and also criticising Minneapolis for having a "sanctuary city policy" that bars city employees from enforcing immigration laws.
Homan on Thursday said changes in the operation would depend on how much state and local officials...

They won’t get any cooperation from Walz and Frey. The rioters won’t allow it.
The only reason to pull back ICE, is to pave the way for the Insurrection Act.
Trump knows they won’t cooperate, so he officially puts this out so he can at least say “well, we tried” before sending in the military
Good framing of the issues.
“The rioters won’t allow it.”
I suspect that’s the point. The admin is trying to drive a wedge between the rioters/NGO’s and the gov’t of Minn. At this point I would not be surprised if Noem and others are telling Walz and Frey that if they don’t use the police to control the rioters, there will be another election-related FBI raid like just happened in Fulton County, GA. Walz and Frey will make half-hearted moves to control the rioters, and the rioters and NGO’s will turn on Walz/Frey. That’s how you foment an intra-Left civil war.
He needs to add cooperation in the fraud investigations too.
but added he wants “common sense cooperation that allows us to draw down on the number of people we have here”.
The deaths .. have been opportunistically used to ignite Astroturfed outrage local protests and public outcry across the country
What needs to be said, loud and clear and often, is:
We are enforcing federal law. Cooperating is not optional - if you live in the US you must obey the laws of the US.
We’d much rather work in cooperation with local/state law enforcement to locate and arrest the criminal illegal aliens as required by law. The best way to have a peaceful and safe process is to cooperate with ICE.
Remember, this is all because Joe Biden let these people into our country.
Removing them with or without your help, but which way do you think is going to result in less violence and fewer unintended consequences?
5d chess against checkers with players missing pieces.
That’s one way of bringing leaders of sanctuary cities back in line! Looks like the progressives defeated themselves!
I believe that Trump‘s chat with Walz was effective in that Walz will back down and already has by calling police protection and enforcement. This in exchange for some sort of amnesty on his vast fraud scam in Minnesota.
What about the death of the hundreds by illegals?
Can’t hate these people enough.
Obviously none of this had to happen. If the police cooperated with ICE things would go much smoother. If people didnt interfere with law enforcement, people wouldnt have to die. If politicians didnt actively encourage violence the ICE surge would’ve have left by now. Its what they want.
I don't see that happening.
Are there any Sanctuary City lawsuits making their way to the Supreme Court?
I heard Homan say that MN “may” let ICE take custody of criminal aliens before MN releases the criminals from a jail.
Knowing how the MN scumbags operate, MN will keep the criminal aliens in jail for extended periods and thus claim they are working with Homan.
Good & Pretti have themselves to blame, plus perhaps a few who taught them to act the way they did.
Only ARRESTS matter!!
Ecc 8:11 When the sentence for a crime is not quickly carried out, people’s hearts are filled with schemes to do wrong.
“The only reason to pull back ICE, is to pave the way for the Insurrection Act.”

As long as the federal courts and civil authorities are still able to perform their duties, there’s no breakdown of civil authority that would justify the Insurrection Act.
If we reach a point where people are burning Minneapolis, shooting federal officers regularly, kidnapping federal judges, etc., then the Insurrection Act and/or Martial Law would be appropriate.
Even then, the truncated civil liberties last only until the courts and other legal institutions are back up and operating. It’s not an occupation.

Trump didn’t even ask Noem to speak during his 1st Cabinet meeting of the year. Tulsi G. has also been iced recently. Bondi hasn’t been doing much either.
Minnesota should be honoring immigration detainers for criminals in the state’s custody, but they should have to serve their state prison or jail terms before being deported.
