New York Congressman Mike Lawler has said that President Trump’s deportation policy is “not working” and urged him to embrace a mass amnesty for illegal aliens.
After the killing of another far-left protester who was trying to interfere with the work of federal immigration officers, Lawler has penned an op-ed in The New York Times urging Americans to “wake up after Minneapolis” and take a new approach to immigration.
He wrote in his piece:
The deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis this month were tragic and preventable. No matter where you stand on immigration enforcement, the shootings show that what the country has been doing is not working.
The loudest voices on each extreme have retreated to their usual corners. They have an interest in keeping our immigration problems unsolved and politically divisive. Everyone else must see that Congress and the president need to embrace a new comprehensive national immigration policy that acknowledges Americans’ many legitimate concerns about how the government has conducted immigration policy.
…
After tensions have calmed, Congress can then piece together the rest of an immigration plan that settles the issue. Along with building on Mr. Trump’s border policies, a realistic plan would provide a path to legal status — not citizenship — for long-term illegal immigrants without criminal records. This path would be rigorous and fair, and it would aim to keep families together. Fair means those who benefit would face mandatory work requirements, forgo public assistance and pay fines and any back taxes they might owe.
Congress would have to change the legal immigration system, too. Lawmakers should create a system in which applicants’ merit matters more than it does now, better accounting for the country’s economic needs. I am the husband of a naturalized citizen. My wife came to the United States in pursuit of a better life. I will always fight to provide opportunity to others who have the potential and desire to contribute to America’s success.
Lawler also appeared on Fox News to explain his big idea, insiting it was not a form of “amnesty” but a “legal path” forward.
“If you have been in this country 5, 10, 20 years and you’ve not committed crimes, we want a legal path forward,” he explained. “Not amnesty.”
”The reality is that we’re not going to be able to round everybody up and kick them out,” he continued.
Is this what Americans voted for in 2024, when President Trump ran on a platform of mass deportations? It is a question that Lawler’s constituents may want to put to him directly.

New York Congressman Mike Lawler W-USS
New York Congressman Mike Lawler approves of rule by demonic mobocracy.
Mass amnesty for 30 million Protected Class members.
When did the so-called government offer a mass amnesty for Americans?
When I see politicians post this way I know they are corrupt and “on the take.”
The effectively out themselves.
I wish a GOP governor would come out and say we are going to throw the IRS out of the state. Anyone protesting or harassing the IRS agents will not be prosecuted.,
I’m pretty sure illegal aliens have killed more Americans than ICE so the argument for amnesty doesn’t really make a lot of sense.
For the first few years I was here at FR I thought like this fool did, and then I took note and saw the damage illegal immigration has done to my home state of California, and to the rest of America. I was also pro-choice. Not anymore. I thought moderation was what was needed in America. Total BS. The time for moderation is over. You’re either RIGHT or totally wrong with the LEFT.
There is a legal path to citizenship, Congressman Asshole. It's call The Citizenship and Immigration Services. Used to be called The INS. Look it up.
We’re already offering amnesty - depart now with the CBP One app and there will not only be no prosecution but a several thousand dollar cash payment.

cant fix stupid but you can elect them
Some will say Lawlers plan will make citizens of the children born here to those given legal residency. The fact is that unless the Supreme Court changes the courts interpretation of birthright citizen ship, that is already the case. When an illegal is deported today, with such children, they get the media on their side because of their citizen-child/children. Lawyers proposal would just legally accept the argument that the illegals citizen-child/children qualifies them for permanent legal residency.
In short a morally wrongful condition would become permanently legal.
IMO, there have always been 3 political parties: the Dems, the GOP, and the RINOs. Throw in the MSM and the public school system, and apart from a few exceptions we have always been outnumbered.
Today, along with the RINOs and Dems, we face an open rebellion from a few major states and national personalities. "Open" in the sense of publicly advocating armed resistance to federal law enforcement.
A bed wetter indeed.
Like when president Reagan granted amnesty to eleven million illegals?
Not working? How many millions have been deported?
Like McCain, too stupid to realize that amnesty is NOT going to save your job.
It only ends one way.
Not working? The lowest murder rate in a century? How does this fool think that happened? Removing criminals has all kinds of side benefits!
