Trump Says He Will Not Use Force to Acquire Greenland
Time ^ | 21 Jan 2026 | Richard Hall

President Donald Trump said Wednesday he would not use force to acquire Greenland, the first time he has ruled out using military action to acquire the territory.

Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Trump lamented that the United States “probably won't get anything unless I decide to use excessive strength and force, where we would be, frankly, unstoppable.”

“But I won't do that,” he added. “That's probably the biggest statement I made, because people thought I would use force. I don't have to use force. I don't want to use force. I won't use force.”

“”Helps Denmark save face. Now when they sell it to us no one can say they did it out of fear. They just saw a good deal, that’s all.””

***

Or.... it just gave the globalists that (apparently) control Denmark now the green light to continue their resistance to the US taking over Greenland. I think the threat of force, even if not intended, was probably a good thing. But opinions vary.

“”Congress will never appropriate the money.””

***

If we don’t retain control, however slight, of Congress this November... the whole issue... along with many others... will become moot.

I don’t think Trump will make a deal that won’t ultimately end up benefitting us. Besides the national security aspects he’s touting, he’s eyeballing the natural resources that can be exploited which will help pay for whatever it ends up costing. He’s not used to being taken advantage of.

Of course the US is not going to invade Greenland .

Trump has just taken almost complete control of the news cycle before a major international meeting, has brought attention to the Chinese attempts to extend their reach to a strategic and vulnerable country and has set the media agenda for the meeting.

Trump is being asked about the future of Greenland and the Middle East while Starmer is being asked about not being able to stop the flotilla of migrants invading the UK in row boats

Trump has set the EU house on fire and like any good fire, Trump has sucked the oxygen out of the room in the process.

He proved something though, and he stated it.

The world only responds to threats. There is no reasoning or negotiating. The United States gets the short stick.

Now what are we going to do? I think we may never have the door open to buy it.

He has already stated how important it is to us. That’s a big mistake even in “The Art of the Deal”. He let them know how important it is.

Now the price tag just doubled. Even backing off on the that is not like people are going to stop fighting everything he does. No one will come to like him. The media will still negatively report him, still call him Hitler and still try to get people to kill him.

This was not a good statement. I’m now on board with the idea that the US must exert power. Our previous leadership made that inevitable.

Also, China is about to kill us. We need to posture for eat and let everyone we won’t hold back.

I saw some of that. Somehow they tracked down Weird Owl Gore to challenge everything Trump said. How did they even know where he was getting a massage?

An account just called “Denmark” posted on Facebook last night saying, “What’s going on, America?

This was definitely a staged thread to invoke TDS. The left does this all the time.

We just experienced one of the great climbdowns in American diplomatic history.

Trump had threatened to invade Greenland and expropriate it by force. Five European nations countered by placing a tripwire in Greenland making it politically impossible for Trump to invade.

There were many in this forum who scoffed, saying that such a weak force could not withstand American power. They, like Trump, misconceived the art of negotiation.

These Freepers missed the whole point, the tripwire was not placed to win a war, it was put in Greenland to deter a war and render it politically untenable for Trump to proceed negotiating based on threatening a takeover by force.

Having been checked by European tripwire, Trump abandoned his threats of invasion and countered by threatening to impose tariffs if Europe did not bend to his will and give him Greenland. Again, Trump miscalculated, Europe stood fast and Trump had to go before the world and climb down.

In the end, the US, in effect, was reduced to begging Europe to give it Greenland because those Europeans have been naughty while he has been good. If they don't give Trump Greenland, he said, he "will remember" -a passive aggressive threat that has no more to it than a vain attempt to save face.

The world can breathe a little easier; Trump's ham-fisted negotiating might yet not actually destroy NATO. Many on this forum simply cannot accept that we dodged a bullet.

I don’t think buying it is an option. Trump started strong, but his messaging on Greenland has been all over the place in the past two days. He’s even started confusing it with Iceland.

Lol, nice try. Nobody fears the Euroweenies. It appears snowflakes overreacted to the art of the deal.... again.
Those who deployed forces look like chicken little morons today.
Preparing for the next great anti-Trump conspiracy that will launch tomorrow. Enjoy the TDS.

He himself pointed out that the natural resources aren’t that much, buried so deeply under ice—and with “rare earth” being something of a misnomer instead of the more relevant “rare processing” of key minerals.

But yeah, Ron Lauder, the billionaire head of the World Jewish Congress is the one who first brought it up and convinced him that it was needed—and Lauder has business interests there.

OK; but it’s not worth $800 billion, and Congressional approval is still required.
