GIVING

There is a story of two young men who were working their way through Stanford University. The day came when they were broke, and something had to be done. One of them had an idea. They would engage the great Paderewski for a piano recital and put their profits toward their board and tuition. All they had to do was guarantee two thousand dollars.

The recital was held but only sixteen hundred dollars was raised. Following the performance, the two young men went to Paderewski, offered him the $1600 and added a promissory note for $400 which indicated they would earn the balance as quickly as possible and send it to him. "No," replied Paderewski, "that isn't necessary." In addition to tearing up the note, he also gave them back all but 10% of the sixteen hundred dollars.

The years went by, and Paderewski became Premier of Poland. The devastation of World War I descended upon Europe, and he was faced with the prospect of starvation for thousands of people. Only one man could help him, the United States Food Administrator at the time. Soon thousands of tons of food began to arrive in Poland for distribution among the people. Following the gift of life-giving food, Paderewski went to Paris to thank the U.S. Food Administrator for the relief he had sent. The administrator told Paderewski, "That's not necessary, Mr. Paderewski. You don't remember, but you once helped me when I was a student without income or money for food. I never forgot it."

The gifts we give come back to us in many different ways.

Dear God:
I ask that no Airman, Coast Guardsman,
Marine, Sailor, Soldier, Reservist, National Guardsman, or Merchant Marine
feel alone or forgotten.

O Israel, hope in the Lord;
For with the Lord there is loving kindness,
And with Him is abundant redemption.
And He will redeem Israel
From all his iniquities.

Psalm 130:7 & 8

Extra prayers for Israel...

He Who blessed our forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - may He bless the fighters of the Israel Defense Force, who stand guard over our land and the cities of our G-d from the border of the Lebanon to the desert of Egypt, and from the Great Sea unto the approach of the Aravah, on the land, in the air, and on the sea.

May HASHEM cause the enemies who rise up against us to be struck down before them. May the Holy One, Blessed is He, preserve and rescue our fighting men from every trouble and distress and from every plague and illness, and may He send blessing and success in their every endeavor.

May He lead our enemies under their sway and may He grant them salvation and crown them with victory. And may there be fulfilled for them the verse: For it is Hashem, your G-d, Who goes with you to battle your enemies for you to save you.

G-d bless and keep your children safe, Alouette.

Good evening, radu, and a Blessed Lord’s Day to you and yours.

Hope you had a nice weather day. Any rain in sight?

Temps above zero today, but wind at times. More tree trash. Shouldn’t be any left.

Navy pardons Marine mascot for ‘offenses’ | Military Times Reports

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgP_xK9FstQ

Chesty the 15th, the lovable bulldog mascot for the Marines in Washington D.C., got a special pardon for a number of endearing infractions at his retirement ceremony. Find out what got the spirited dog in hot water.

Check the comments below the video. Here are a couple, enjoy!

“Congratulations on your retirement, Chesty. Enjoy your time off and always remember that you are a MARINE!. Semper Fidelis. “

“Met one at the Marine Barracks in Norfolk. They were concerned because being just a few years old he spent most of his day sleeping. Turns out he was running around 10+ miles every day before the sun came up. Gunny took him for a run at 4am, the commandant around 5am, then he ran with the troops at 6am. He never stopped except to get water, never complained, never said no, and never gave up. He was a Marine through and through. Weekends were worse because lots of people went to fun run all day long. He was assigned an official run log and was limited to how far and often he could run.”

Memphis Belle (10/10) Movie CLIP - Landing the Belle (1990) HD

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3LcGb0DGM8

Check the comments below the video:

“My great Uncle was Bob Hanson, the real radio operator on the Memphis Belle for all 25 missions.”

“My dad was a tail gunner, 95th group, 33 missions, he won the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air medal. I still have them. RIP Dad.”

“My dad was a B-17 Pilot, flying 35 missions out of England with the mighty Eighth. Never talked much about it, but had dozens of photos, and a tale of being attacked by the German jet. He was blessed, as they NEVER lost a crewman, with only one tail gunner receiving a serious injury from which he recovered. My mother shared a wonderful story about why he never advanced past 2nd Lt. It dealt with him ‘borrowing’ a bicycle. Did get the DFC as well as a few other medals, with the commendation signed by General Doolittle. Yes, THAT Doolittle from Pearl Harbor movies and the attack on Japan.”

“My parents got married in Florida during the war. My father was a West Point graduate class of 1943. The Memphis Belle crew had arrived in the U. S. for the start of their fundraising effort, They were looking for alcohol. Some army supply person had made sure that there was plenty for the wedding, so the Memphis Belle crew came to the wedding and celebrated in style. Father then went to England and flew his 25 missions as the pilot of a B-17 in the 398th. When my father watched this movie he was flooded with memories.”

“The best bit was cut. The Belle rolls to a stop and Modine finally lets the controls go and takes his feet of the pedals. The flaps just drop and the hissing of the burnt engines makes it sound like the whole aircraft is exhaling. “There’s a good girl”.”

No rain today but it was cloudy this afternoon. Had enough sunshine this morning to warm things up though. Still 65 outside so I haven’t closed the window I cracked open.

Nice to see the snow up there stopped. I did notice flags were flapping so the wind isn’t leaving y’all alone yet.

Yeah, ya think there just can’t be anything left in the trees to be blown out and darn it if more doesn’t fall out when the wind cranks up. LOL I still haven’t cleaned my yards up yet. Supposed to be windy tomorrow and Monday so I’ll wait.

How’d it go down there today? Is the wind starting to pick up ahead of the front?
