Leaked transcript reveals EU fears U.S. may betray Ukraine in peace talks

EU leaders warned Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a closed-door call that the United States might betray both Ukraine and Europe by conceding territory without firm security guarantees, Spiegel reported on Dec. 4.

According to the outlet, European heads of state and government expressed deep mistrust toward Washington’s role in peace talks between Russia and Ukraine. Spiegel published what it claims is a transcript of the call — involving German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron, several other European leaders, and Zelenskyy — in which the Americans were portrayed as unreliable.

“There is a possibility that the United States will betray Ukraine on the issue of territory without clearly defining security guarantees,” Spiegel quoted Macron as saying during the Dec. 1 call.

He warned that Zelenskyy faces “a great danger,” as Russia’s demands for territorial concessions remain among the most sensitive points in the negotiations.

Merz reportedly urged Zelenskyy to be “extremely careful in the coming days.”

“They are playing games with you and with us,” the chancellor said, apparently referring to U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and his son‑in‑law Jared Kushner.

Spiegel said these and other remarks illustrate “deep European mistrust” toward Trump’s two confidants.

“While European leaders publicly praise Washington’s new initiative, the document shows that Merz, Macron, and the others do not trust the two American negotiators,” the report said.

We should never have gotten involved there in the first place.

Gee. I wonder who leaked the transcript. Is this really how the EU is going to advance their hawkish policy on Ukraine? They don’t have the military muscle to take on Russia themselves with their historically pathetic military budgets, so they leak to their MSM allies to try to guilt the US into taking more aggressive action? Pathetic.

Whatever is negotiated by US is not binding on anyone so this hyperbole is nonsense.

EU, Ukraine, whoever can choose whatever path they desire just without our money.

One can look at any American Polling Group. And YouCrayne is not even
an issue for Americans. Zeepers and Neocons are a VERY SMALL MINORITY.

The top issues for Americans are consistently related to the economy, specifically the cost of living and inflation. Other major concerns include political issues like government corruption and the state of democracy, as well as policy-specific issues such as immigration, healthcare costs, and crime.
Key concerns vary by political affiliation and demographics, but general trends from recent polls (2024 and 2025) indicate the following priorities:
Top Overall Concerns
Economic Issues: A strong majority of Americans consistently rank the economy as a top priority.
Cost of Living/Inflation: This is a primary worry across political lines, impacting daily life and purchasing power.
General Economy/Jobs: Strengthening the overall economy and improving the job situation remain important policy goals.
Federal Spending & Budget Deficit: Concerns about government spending and the national debt are also significant.
Government & Leadership:
Government Corruption: A majority of Americans express high levels of worry about corruption.
State of Democracy/Partisan Cooperation: Political division and the health of U.S. democratic institutions are significant concerns.
Healthcare: The availability and affordability of healthcare and health insurance costs are ongoing concerns for many.
Immigration: Dealing with immigration, particularly illegal immigration and border security, has become a growing concern, especially among Republicans and independents.
Crime: Reducing crime and violence is widely seen as a top priority.

As the caliphate grows in the EU the commies who let it happen need to distract from their failure. I hope they have plans to let the US have their nukes before the fall.

Which is why the Europeans are getting pissy.

The EUSSR has been betraying the USA for decades.

This is a ruse to divide Ukraine between Russia and the EUSSR.

Notice what doesn't ask -- do you support giving financial or military aid to Ukraine.

The percentages are very low given that both the left-wing and right-wing media do nothing but post globalist propaganda about the war in Ukraine.

Betray Ukraine? We owe them nothing; but humanitarian aid would create much goodwill.

Well, I suppose you can make the claim that those who support Ukraine just want the tooth fairy to help with fairy dust.

I doubt it, though.

Betray.

That’s an interesting word, coming from Europeans.

The word “betray” does not apply at all. We owe no loyalty to the Ukraine.

Ukraine was betrayed by NATO, by the European “leaders,” and by the neocons, all of whom used the Ukrainians as pawns in their proxy war to undermine Russia. Trump must end the war now so that no more Ukrainians are sacrificed in this cynical war.
