Trump's Ukraine deal stuns Europe as his unprecedented NATO pledge forces Kyiv into an impossible choice

Donald Trump's blockbuster peace deal for Ukraine includes unprecedented NATO-style security guarantees, sources have revealed.

The president backed a 28-point draft proposal - based on the Gaza deal - that would treat an attack on Ukraine as one on the entire 'transatlantic community.'

But the deal, delivered to Kyiv last night, sparked a ferocious backlash as it demands Volodmyr Zelensky cede territory, slash troops and hold elections within 100 days.

Washington has threatened to cut intelligence sharing and weapons supplies to press it into agreeing the proposal, sources told Reuters.

'They want to stop the war and want Ukraine to pay the price,' one of the sources said.

The NATO-style pledge comes after Ukraine earlier this week pushed back on a draft which only included vague security assurances. The new proposal promises to defend Ukraine for a period of 10 years, with a later renewal not ruled out.

Ukraine is under greater pressure from the US than ever to sign a peace deal, sources said, with Trump determined to end the war which has killed 300,000 people since Vladimir Putin launched his invasion in February 2022.

The US wants Ukraine to sign a framework of the deal by next Thursday, a source said.

'Being f***ing mind blown has become our norm,' a senior lawmaker from Zelensky's party said.

In February, the Ukraine-Russia war will enter its fourth year – and Trump now appears open to giving a 10-year NATO-style commitment to protecting Ukraine from Russian aggression

Reacting to the proposal in an address to the nation on Friday, Zelensky said he would not 'betray' Ukraine, and would propose 'alternatives' to the plan widely seen as giving in to a host of Moscow's demands.

The leader said his country was facing...

Europe knows Russia already occupies about 20% of Ukraine...right??

The EU has said right along...if the USA is not involved...they won't stand up.

Ukraine should be under the the Russian security envelope (just as Canada is for the US); trying to take it from them and make it a NATO puppet is what started this whole mess in the first place. So long as NATO keeps grasping for it the region will be unstable and blood will be on NATO’s hands.

Ukraine will pay a bigger price by not ending the war.

As I've said for months, Ukraine can only continue to lose lives and territory by fighting on.

No chance of the Russians agreeing to any NATO-style protection in Ukraine.

It would be dumb for us to risk a hot war with Russia by offering it.

One, Russia has never waivered once from the no Ukraine in NATO idea. No “art of the deal” BS is going to have them accept the old shuck and jive, “hey, they aren’t a NATO member with a card and decoder ring, but they get full NATO protection” scam.
And two, he’s an absolute idiot to commit the USA to joining any new war between Russia and Ukraine. I can think of no faster way to get Ukraine to false flag, or provoke Russia into an attack. They know the instant it gets hot, Uncle Sugar and NATO join in?

Mr dealmaker...

considering other things in the deal look bad to Zelensky, I think maybe that is the whole point: Trump is intentionally making a deal he knows Zelensky will reject, and because a US security pact is in there, if Zelensky rejects it Trump can then say “Well we offered them a pact but they rejected so no more pacts” and I think this final rejection in addition to that will give Trump the final excuse he needs to bail out of the situation entirely, so he can at least say “well we tried”

“it demands Volodmyr Zelensky cede territory, slash troops and hold elections within 100 days.” And it demands the invader do the following:

A US security guarantee is folly.

We have not interests there. None. Nada.

Trump screwed the pooch on this one.

He really screwed up.

Sounds about right.

Trump is still hoping for a Peace Prize to assuage his fake bone spurs.

Long overdue to cut off intel and long range missiles.
Z should take the deal.
Donbass voted to join russia.no loss to ukes.
If the deal allows UK/France to send troops to uke, then this will be a nonstarter.
I’m not trusting media reports but hope some is true so we can end this proxy war on russia.

Canada wants to be under our protection; Ukraine does not want be under Russian “protection,” i.e., subjugation.

Ukraine did in fact vote for Russophile governments until the 2014 color revolution instigated by western plotters that eliminated honest representative government there. As I’ve said many times, this conflict will end when (surviving) Ukrainians remember who their neighbor is, and it’s not Brussels or Washington.

The MIC NEEDS uncertainty and war SOMEWHERE in the world. With the Abraham accords potentially bringing some measure of peace to the middle east. If Tehran truly dries up and topples the mullahs there. What’s a warmonger to do?

What does that mean? US troops stationed in Ukraine? It can’t be NATO troops since afaik NATO wasn’t even consulted. And I don’t see Russia accepting NATO or US forces in Ukraine before hell freezes over.
