Democratic socialist candidate Rae Huang launched her campaign for Los Angeles mayor against Democratic incumbent Karen Bass.
"I am excited and very humbled to announce that I am running for Mayor of Los Angeles, the second largest city in our nation," Huang wrote on her Instagram account Saturday. "After over 20 years of leaning into my call to serve God through social justice work and organizing, this path has led me in these uncertain times to take the unusual path to continue my calling by running for Mayor to finally see through the changes the LA social justice movement and I have been building for years."
The 43-year-old community organizer and Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) member wrote that her campaign will focus on universal housing, free transportation, climate resiliency and affordability, issues that resemble New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani's initial campaign.
She wrote that she also aims to take on what she called the "establishment" in the city.
"Over the past decade, I have worked with Los Angeles organizers and neighbors on solutions for our city. Now it’s time we implement them. I will be running against establishment and the billionaire class and will not be accepting any money from corporations," Huang wrote.
In an interview with The Los Angeles Times, Huang avoided direct comparisons to Mamdani but added that she hopes to get an endorsement from the local DSA chapter, which celebrated Mamdani's win.
She expressed disappointment in Bass' leadership on homelessness and in dealing with recent political violence over the summer, calling her new campaign a "moment for change."

Karen Bass, even during the BLM riots, was at the very least - NEVER for defunding the police...
(She did defund the Fire Dept though.)
Great. So now Karen Bass is the preferable choice.
Invoking God in her mission statement is an unusual tactic. I doubt He would approve of Democrat Socialism in the first place so that was an audacious move, but it may turn off the militant faction she needs in order to win. Gotta get more popcorn for this one.
Left of Bass is pretty much opening the gates of hell.
DSA has captured America’s largest city, NYC population 8 million . They are now poised to capture Number 2, Los Angeles population 4 million.
Gotta’ get out of l.a. I am beginning to believe that all red counties should start choking off the major cities.
Those cities can control whole states and even federal elections. The cities are miserable, compacted concentrations of people who, in order to survive, must rely on collectivism, and then effect the whole state.
Big cities needed to be choked off:
New York, l.a., Chicago, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Detroit, Atlanta, San Jose, Portland, Seattle, Boston
Cities on the bubble: Houston, San Diego, Newark, St. Louis,
The commies/new democrats/Marxist/socialists in these miserable rat colony cities can control the whole nation and drive media narratives.
Amazing that something once shameful to uncover is now not quite radical enough for the socialist/commies.
History:
Karen Bass visited Cuba multiple times, including approximately eight times in the 1970s as an activist with the Venceremos Brigade, a group supporting the Cuban Revolution and Fidel Castro’s Communist policies and several more times as a U.S. Representative.
She made around eight trips to Cuba during that decade, participating in activities like building houses and attending speeches by Fidel Castro.
She made at least one additional trip in 1989.
Bass trained in Cuba to be a Marxist guerilla and her challenger is worse than that?
Nuke . it . from . space!
RE: Gotta’ get out of l.a. I am beginning to believe that all red counties should start choking off the major cities.
When someone says “Ooooh, that sounds harsh and vindictive” then compare it to the cities which are already holding outstate voters’ hostage with no representation to speak of and no policies to help them.
Crush and suffocate the cities. In all the states.
Proud boycotter of the City of Detroit since 1975.
“The 43-year-old community organizer...”
There are those words again, “community organizer” - societies hemorrhoids. They also go by “activists”.
They’re scab pickers who go around the country looking to aggravate any sore.
Why am I not surprised?!
Why am I not surprised?!
And voters will remain too stupid to turn out in force for anyone with any decency and common sense.
Have Angelenos learned nothing? They have already had a communist mayor - Bass! How did that work out?!

^^This^^
Bass is a communist/Marxist back ground. You’d think Huang would know maybe 2nd hand how bad communism is.
COVID has destroyed free enterprise, capitalism and enhanced reliance on government.
no...just stop doing business with them if at all possible. Raise the price of goods on things you produce if you have to deal with them. Don’t set foot in their cities if at all possible. Do not contribute to their financial well being unless you use the money you get from them to help destroy their political system. Too bad, Dodgers. Too bad UCLA, CSULA, all the JUCO’s in L.A. they should all get out of L.A. Sorry DTLA...whither away.
There are lots of cities surrounding l.a. There has been movement to get the San Fernando valley to secede from L.A. Make it happen. Harsh and vindictive? ..more like harsh...if it was vindictive it would be much more worse than withholding and withdrawal.
