Sen. John Fetterman rips Dems over record 36-day government shutdown: ‘——— political game’
New York Post ^ | Nov. 5, 2025 | Josh Christenson

Sen. John Fetterman slammed his fellow Democrats Wednesday for prolonging the government shutdown for 36 days — making it the longest in US history — even as millions of Americans lose their food stamp benefits or work without pay in their federal posts due to a “-—-- political game.”

Fetterman, one of three Democrat or Dem-leaning senators — along with Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) and Angus King (I-Maine) — consistently voting with Republicans to end the shutdown, told The Post that the standoff “should have never started.”

“People like to celebrate about breaking a new record, but this is a terrible record and that’s why I refuse to ever be a part of it,” the 56-year-old Pennsylvania Democrat said.

“And here we are — what is it, like three weeks out from Thanksgiving? — and 42 million Americans now are going to lose … their SNAP [benefits]. And now you have a lot of people [who] are going to be flying and anyone that spent time in our airports can realize things are seriously deteriorating,” Fetterman went on. “I couldn’t even find a flight to get here last weekend.”

“And then also, our military — who wants to vote to not pay our military?”

I hope he continues to surprise us and he should be praised for his common sense not ridiculed.. I remember what a weird duck he was when he was first elected, nasty slander from his town in PA...I think we all fell for it but since then?

I love his sense of humor...he was on TV the other night on a program I don’t recall and said he didn’t think he’d been invited for his “fashion sense.” It takes a unique person to make fun of themselves...

I have a plane trip to Texas in early December for the birth and bris of my Grandson. If the shutdown continues, that plane may not fly. So I’ll give myself a few extra days and drive it from WA state.

Okey dokey. Having the Federal Beast shut down is a breath of fresh air.

“Bottom line is very simple: The ideologues in the Senate want to turn what the Founding Fathers called ‘the cooling saucer of democracy’ into the rubber stamp of dictatorship. We will not let them. They want, because they can’t get their way on every judge, to change the rules in mid-stream, to wash away 200 years of history. They want to make this country into a banana republic, where if you don’t get your way, you change the rules. Are we going to let them? It’ll be a doomsday for democracy if we do.”

That was what Sen. Chuck Schumer said in 2005, as he successfully argued that Republicans should not change the Senate’s filibuster rules to get their way. Now that Democrats have the Senate majority, with him as their leader, he’s arguing strenuously for sidelining the filibuster to “wash away 200 years of history.”

Well, as with all politicians, they love to run their mouths about disagreements with their “friends across the aisle.” They are not your friends.

“42 million Americans now are going to lose … their SNAP [benefits]”

Nope. At least 20 million aren’t American. Maybe a little longer and a good chunk of those pigs will self deport.

During a period of government shutdown and related votes on appropriations bills in October 2025, Sen John Fetterman consistently advocated for ensuring that military personnel and other federal workers received their paychecks, often stressing that it “shouldn’t be controversial”.

His sentiment was generally: “I want to pay everybody. I want to pay our police. I want to pay the military”.

In one instance, he voted with some Republicans on a plan that would have paid active-duty members of the military and essential federal workers, a move that went against the majority of his Democratic colleagues at the time.

A rhetorical question Fetterman posed to highlight focused on the urgency and necessity of passing funding bills to ensure service members’ pay during the funding impasse.

He has expressed frustration with his Democrat colleagues during the shutdown, calling on lawmakers to “get their s**t together” and pass funding to keep the government open and pay all workers.

“Fetterman votes to stop the shut down...every vote...that’s all he can do.”
Fetterman is a man without a party.
His “party” no longer exists.
His former associates have morphed into an anti-American beast.
A beast who holds the working class hostage to an imported voting base dependent upon the beast.

Can either party survive the outrage that is starting to happen leading to thanksgiving ? Flight cancellations start Friday

Ripple effect. I have no idea if my trip insurance will cover me not being able to get a flight for a vacation

Is will be difficult for airlines to deal with all the contractual issues with unions etc
