Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) said Democrats need to “own” the government shutdown as the impasse has now stretched over a month.
Fetterman, one of the few in his party who has broken with Democrats and voted to reopen the government, was asked about the shutdown during a Sunday morning appearance on CNN’s State of the Union. He said it is “deeply distressing” that 42 million people are losing food stamp benefits.
“And now that’s one of the big reasons why I refuse to shutting our government down,” he said. “And again, I feel like the Democrats really need to own the shutdown. I mean, we’re shutting it down.”
The Senate needs a 60-vote majority of lawmakers to reopen the government, and Democrats have dug their heels in and are demanding the reinstatement of expiring Obamacare subsidies. They are hoping to use the opportunity as leverage to get concessions from the GOP.

What the Democrat (Socialists) need to do, and what they are willing to do, is as far apart as the earth and the sky. You can see it appear to meet on the horizon, but go to that horizon, and the gap is just as large as it ever was.
They do not want agreement, they just keep upping the ante.
Fetterman needs to own that he doesn’t belong in the Democrat Party.
Come over to the Republican Party. No one agrees with everyone on anything anyway and the pubs need the extra number in the Senate.
If the GOP were being blamed, wouldn’t polls be released showing that?
I could see Fetterman drifting into independent status, especially if the vengeful DNC tries to primary him the next time he runs (in 2028).
If that happens, I hope Fetterman goes true independent - and not fake, Bernie Sanders independent.
Side note: Some folks think Fetterman is playing us, that it’s all an act. I disagree. He’s doing too many things both spontaneously and correctly.
If Senator Fetternan keeps going with all this truth telling, he’s going to start getting his home and offices Swatted: A fake call asking for emergency assistance due to an active and potentially violent threat. For now, it’s mainly something Progressives do to conservatives.
To democrats. Fetterman no longer counts, since he’s acting like a republican.
Only if AOC talked like Fetterman, would democrats listen. But then, she’d be a traitor to their socialism too.
Well, the DemonRAT toadies in the “media” are trying to pin it on the GOP and a bunch of GOOBERS are ready to take it. They are starting to wet their pants because the Party of Death, Destruction and Assassins are telling the “pollsters” that it’s Trump and the MAGA’s fault for the shutdown. They’ve even been able to get the low I.Q. DemonRAT voters to feel story for the 42 million illegal alien SNAPPERS who are going to miss a few meals.
But...but...butt. we’ve got a bunch of POS RINOs who want to take the blame.
I could see Fetterman sleeping on the couch...His parents might be old time Republicans....but his wife is an active Dem...through and through.
That there is doubt in the DemonKKKrat’s blame for the shutdown tells me they are lousy blame shifters. For most of them, it began when they were kids when they ate all the cookies and blamed their sisters for it. Not only are they blame shifters, they are liars and Marxists; where, for them, “the ends justifies the means.”
They have also grown up to become lousy kidnappers and extortioners.
I am calling Patty “Osama Mama” Murray (202-224-2621) and Maria “Can’t Do Well” (Cantwell) (202-224-3441) to tell them they’re no different than kidnappers who hold the nation for a 1.5 trillion dollar ransom.
