Nigel Farage has overtaken Sir Keir Starmer as the nation’s preferred choice of prime minister for the first time.
The Reform UK leader is seen as a better candidate to lead the country by 33 per cent of people, compared with 30 per cent who prefer Sir Keir, a poll shows.
A monthly tracker of political preferences by Ipsos, the polling firm, also shows that Andy Burnham, the mayor for Greater Manchester, is favoured over Sir Keir as a better prime minister.
Meanwhile, Kemi Badenoch, the Conservative Party leader, appears to be enjoying a post-conference bump with voters choosing the Tories over Labour when asked which party they prefer.
The polling is likely to add to speculation that Sir Keir could face a leadership challenge before next May’s local elections, which are expected to result in big losses for Labour.
Although the party’s rules do not allow for MPs to remove their leader, who is directly elected by the membership, Sir Keir could stand down if the Parliamentary Labour Party sees him as a liability.
As recently as July, the Prime Minister led Mr Farage by eight percentage points in the Ipsos monthly poll. A separate YouGov poll found Labour has hit its lowest-ever poll rating after falling to just 17 per cent of the vote, some 10 percentage points behind Reform UK and just one point ahead of the Greens.
However, the Reform leader’s relentless campaigning on immigration and crime, coupled with a lacklustre Labour Party conference and fears of more tax rises in next month’s Budget, have seen support for Sir Keir ebb away.

Time for Labour to cook up some lawfare to put Farage in jail or bar him from running again.
Farage is better than almost any alternative. But I doubt he has the will to do what is necessary.
a blow up sex toy would be a better PM than the one they have.
Wouldn't surprise me in the least.

Interesting. And it will make the Labour Party bosses laugh. They might replace Starmer with a duplicate if this trend continues.
But Labour probably won’t call for a general election before August of 2029. That’s plenty of time for them to turn Britain into something completely unrecognizable.
🙁
He's no Trump.
Farage is more likely to be a clone of Boris Johnson.
*It's a British desert. Don't blame me for the name.
We’ve all known this since 2016 BREXIT.
My Dalmatian would be a better PM than Starmer - at least she defends her territory from approaching strangers, and fiercely defends those she is supposed to defend. Starmer might be more polite and groom himself a bit better, but those aren’t the most important duties of a PM.
For the last few years, it always seems as though Britain is only 10 short weeks away from yet another national election.
How long before they choose between Farage, Starmer and ‘others’?
Starmer’s policies are wrecking ball radical it’s like he’s paving the way for Nigel.
Nigel needs to be the nice guy drinking his beer at the pub.
His associates can do the “Tommy Robinson” stuff and I think Reform UK has people in it willing to do crackdowns on illegal immigration and or Islamic extremism.
Labour was given a vote of confidence proof majority. They are stuck with a Labour PM for years. King cuck could force an election but 0 chance of that happening.
Not anymore. The King needs the PM’s permission to call an election.
Brits finally getting a clue.
One possible problem would be a split in the Labour ranks if Starmer is forced to cut welfare programs the Left will break off of Labour.
A split could open the way for an early election.
Not that it matters but l thought the knig could dissolve Parliament which would force an election
Farage’s gardener would be a better PM than Starmer.
