In a state like Texas with stringent voting checks, over 2,700 illegal immigrants slipping through the cracks and onto the voter rolls highlights an issue that is much worse in states with lax laws.
The dual revelations that an illegal alien school administrator from Iowa made it onto the voter rolls in Maryland and that over 2,700 noncitizens escaped strict voter ID checks to qualify to vote in Texas are creating new momentum for creating a nationwide citizenship check system for elections.
"Many folks that come into my office will tell me, and anyone who will listen, this is the biggest issue in the country. Democrats don't want tightly run elections," Rep. Eli Crane, R-Ariz., told Just the News on Thursday night. "We all know that they want as much room for, you know, fraud, as humanly possible."
"So right now, in many states, you can just check a box and say you're a citizen, and that's it. What we're fighting for is we're actually fighting that you as a citizen have to prove that you're a citizen of this country if you're going to vote in our election," he said during an interview on the Just the News No Noise television show.
Crane and Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, are spearheading a campaign to mandate proof of U.S. citizenship for voter registration in upcoming federal elections.
Their effort, endorsed through a letter supporting a petition from the America First Legal Foundation, has gained traction with additional Republican lawmakers, including Sens. Ted Budd (North Carolina), Jim Banks (Indiana), Roger Marshall (Kansas), Cindy Hyde-Smith (Mississippi), John Cornyn (Texas), Marsha Blackburn (Tennessee), Ron Johnson (Wisconsin) and Bernie Moreno (Ohio).

Colorado. Mexicans rule here.
Just 2700?
Tina Peters is in prison for exposing the fraud.
To paraphrase a quote from a popular movie, "It shouldn't be too hard, [it] is standing right next to you."
18 U.S.C. § 611 makes it "...unlawful for any alien to vote in any election held solely or in part for the purpose of electing a candidate for the office of President, Vice President, Presidential elector, Member of the Senate, Member of the House of Representatives..."
That statute has been on the books for several decades but one could wonder why it has been ignored.
Consider lax ‘motor-voter’ laws to be among the culprits. In some places the DMV will register you to vote when buying license plates (blue states?). In other places like Texas one must prove USA citizenship (birth certificate, etc) in order to get a driver’s license renewed. At the place where I last got my DL renewed they had a desk over in the corner for either ICE or INS officer to sit.
Over 2,700 illegal immigrants DID NOT slip through the cracks in Texas!
Some Texas Election Administration Management official(s) allowed these illegal aliens to register to vote. Publishing which Texas county had the most illegal alien voters and whether the Election Administration Management official was a Demonicrat would be useful.
I moved to FL from WA state. No one asked me to show passport or citizenship certificate.
Ditto when I moved from CA to WA.
Ditto when I moved from IL to CA.
I was naturalized in Illinois. That is the first state where I registered to vote. But no one asked to see my naturalization certificate when registering to vote.
Why voting is so easy to cheat in USA?
Democrats.
“Tina Peters is in prison for exposing the fraud.”
And why is she still in prison? I’ve never seen such railroading in my life.
Democrats.
And, it pains me to say,
Dems + wussy/compromised R's = overwhelming majority.
It’s outrageous
If we really want voter ID, the solution is a National ID card that can be checked against biometrics. There’s no other shortcut.
Other countries have effective voter ID requirements without resorting to total surveillance state tactics, Comrade.
In Europe, Voter ID Is the Norm
Mexico has voter ID.
