CHICAGO (AP) — Federal immigration officers in the Chicago area will be required to wear body cameras, a judge said Thursday after seeing tear gas and other aggressive steps used against protesters.
U.S. District Judge Sara Ellis said she was a “little startled” after seeing TV images of clashes between agents and the public during President Donald Trump’s administration’s immigration crackdown.
“I live in Chicago if folks haven’t noticed,” she said. “And I’m not blind, right?”
Community efforts to oppose U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement have ramped up in the nation’s third-largest city, where neighborhood groups have assembled to monitor ICE activity and film incidents involving agents. More than 1,000 immigrants have been arrested since September.
Separately, the Trump administration has tried to deploy National Guard troops, but the strategy was halted last week by a different judge.
Ellis last week said agents in the area must wear badges, and she banned them from using certain riot control techniques against peaceful protesters and journalists.
“I’m having concerns about my order being followed,” the judge said.

An Obama judge:
Sara Lee Ellis is a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.She served as counsel at the law firm of Schiff Hardin LLP in Chicago prior to her confirmation. On May 6, 2013, President Barack Obama nominated Ellis to the court to fill the vacancy left by Joan B. Gottschall. She was confirmed on October 7, 2013.
She literally has no authority to make such rulings. Unless they are in violation of a law, she has no authority to dictate the executive branch’s procedures and policies.
I doubt that the “groups” are all from the “neighborhood”.

Looks like we got another district trying to take the New Supreme Court laurels away from the Northern District of California - the Northern District of Illinois.
There is no pushback from Trump. He’s too worried about his public image. So……why not? Tie him up in court as long as they can cause hes not gonna go against the judiacary.

I say, good. Then there can be evidence refuting claims by protesters lies about beatings, racist comments, etc.
I wonder what’s next. Perhaps her majesty Judge Ellis will require officers to wear bunny slippers while on duty.

Another foreign born black female judge. Why do all these foreigners run for office? They come from a different culture.
Years and years ago, we joked about lawyers, but still held some respect for them. Now, in the age of joke ‘lawyers’ such as Dorkbama and his clown show of DEI idiots, some joke Supreme Court ‘just-us’ types, and a good many law schools, anyone respecting that profession is wearing a “kick me” sign on their backs. This is easy to joke about, but when that lack of respect reaches a critical point, we become a third-world nation (such as CA, IL, MI, and NY).
