Microsoft hosts ready-to-use political censorship software on its Azure Marketplace in China, further evidence of how the company has aided the development and implementation of the country’s repressive system of political control.
An Associated Press investigation revealed American tech companies like Dell, IBM, and Microsoft are increasingly recognized to have played a pivotal role in the construction of the modern Chinese surveillance state over the last two decades by providing critical hardware and software.
Less documented is the role some U.S. companies have played in enabling mass censorship. Microsoft in particular aids and abets censorship by the Chinese government far more proactively than previously reported. The company has previously come under fire for censoring Bing search results in China. Open-source evidence now indicates that Microsoft hosts two Chinese apps on its Chinese Azure Marketplace that further facilitate censorship of political topics. These plug-and-play products can be deployed by other Azure-using enterprises across China, enabling China’s aggressive censorship of political speech in the country. …

Hmmm... seems just like IBM and Nazi Germany.
“For those that missed it, Microsoft today banned Israel for using the cloud to monitor Pali terrorists.”
I was just about the post that. Israel uses it to spy on the terrorists who wish to kill Israelis, and every other non Muslim on earth. China uses MS to spy on citizens the government wants to kill. Big difference. BUT. China has more money to spend on MS garbage.
Let’s all upload to OneDrive! Idiocracy!
Ya beat me to it.
What a disgusting turn of events.
Apple, Windows, Linux - are those the only choices?
In case you’re wondering what the definition of fascism is...
Beat me to it.
And they helped set up the Social Credit Score Tracking System.
Microsoft HELPS Communist China abuse its citizens.
Microsoft DENIES Democratic Israel the ability to discern between terrorists and civilians.
Both in the news today.
Very consistent with the Left.
Absolutely not! You always write your own OS.
Those are the Big Three. Unix is still out there in various forms, but it's more work than Linux. The rest of the OSes are essentially "also-rans".
As GingisK said, you can also write your own. Trust me, that's more work than it's worth.
I'm in IT, and when friends and family ask me, "What operating system should I get for my next computer?", this is my response:
"You will sooner or later have problems with your computer. Everyone does. The choice is about how to solve them.If you prefer to solve the problems with money, run MacOS.
If you prefer to solve the problems with time, run Linux.
If you prefer to solve the problems with an unpredictable combination of money and time, run Windows. It's not just a joke. It's pretty much true."
That’s a great answer!
Thanks very much.
I think you covered it nicely. ;-D
I only mentioned the "real computer" operating systems, used on desktops and laptops. I didn't include the "device" OSes, because they aren't really general-purpose. MacOS/OS-X begat iOS; Linux begat Android, ChromeOS, ChromiumOS, FireOS, and a few others; and there are a handful of custom-built ones for particular devices.
A high-end Chromebook looks like a real laptop, but it is still basically a thin-client for running cloud applications. You can load and run a VM of Linux on it, under ChromeOS, which is cool. Nevertheless, I still consider a Chromebook a device, not a general purpose machine.
My quick metric is: Can you install your own choice of code editor, install the Gnu compiler, write and compile a C "Hello, world!" program, and run it in Bash or a similar shell? If so, then you probably have a real computer. If not, it's probably just a device.
