Trump’s Strategic Ambiguity and the Russia-Ukraine War

Let’s dive beyond the hype into what Trump is actually saying.

After yesterday’s meeting between US President Donald J. Trump and Kiev regime leader Volodymyr Zelensky, followed by his blockbuster Truth Social post, many were startled by the apparent U-turn by Trump on the issue of the Russia-Ukraine war.

But there is one element to be taken into consideration: Trump has long been cultivating strategic ambiguity regarding many world issues, making himself more of a moving target for the Fake News media’s relentless criticism.

If he remained immovable in his beliefs, he’d be a sitting duck for the casting of stones by the MSM hacks.

So, the avalanche of stories in the press about Trump flipping into a Ukrainian supporter are based on incomplete information, and even some vehicles have caught on to the real dimension of things.

Trump’s praise for Ukraine and criticism of Russia has made many blind to the fact that he is handing the problem once and for all to Europe to deal with.

Trump’s post and comments expressing his faith in Kiev’s ability to ‘regain all of its territory’ left people relieved, but suspicious that he will leave Europe to deal with support for Ukraine.

Reuters reported:

“Trump’s remarks on Truth Social marked an abrupt and major rhetorical shift for the U.S. leader who had previously nudged Ukraine to give up territory to end the war and rolled out the red carpet for Vladimir Putin in Alaska only last month.

But it was not immediately clear whether he would back up his words with a shift in U.S. policy, an ambiguity that could keep the onus on Europe to meet more of Ukraine’s needs through weapons and financing as Washington’s...”

Trump washed his hands, and at the same time signaled that Ukraine would be returning to its Russian roots as I read it, and as Zelinski read it to 1991. However, Trump is making money off the war so its a win for him, right? Zelinski is finished and so is Ukraine. Russia has depopulated the AFU and they can no longer field units to plug the gaps. We have reached the Feburary 1945 route, but Russia is continuing to attrit the Ukrainians with standoff weapons systems; Ukraine had used drones for the past 16 months to compensate for their continuing lack of infantrymen. Today, the drones cannot occupy ground as do infantry and the death spiral of the AFU is beginning. Ukriane must push their troops to the Russians who just sit back wack them. Col Doug MacGregor has been qouting the May numbers of 1.7m dead Ukes, but Russia is killing 35-45,000 Ukrainian soldiers a month. By the end of the year, Ukraine will have KIAs of 2m, and desertions of 300,000. Russia has lost less than 170,000 men. As with the Germans in WWII, most of their casualties happened after Jan 45 when entire units just disappeared under the Russia onslaught, which is now beginning to happen in Ukraine.

--- "...he is handing the problem once and for all to Europe to deal with."

Perhaps this is correct. Likely even. One waits to see as the days go past, but the pix I have added to comments speaks loudly. A gaggle of European "leaders" were all seated in front of the Resolute desk, lobbying en masse for President Trump to do what they wanted him to do.

"The European leaders joining the meeting were United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, President of the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte."

Source: Who are the European leaders meeting with Trump and Zelenskyy? USA Today, 18 August 2025.

All those European "leaders" who want someone else to lead. Or perhaps obey.

Europe will have to pay for the war in Ukraine. Trump is willing to sell the arms to Europe (thru NATO) so we'll do our part of the deal.

But it is not that simple.

Germany struggles to fix its pension system.

They don't have enough $$$ to fund their generous welfare state and to purchase arms for Ukraine.

If Putin can hold out for 10 years, he'll win the war in Ukraine.

But they are taking heavy casualties and their pace of offensive operations are not sustainable in the long term.

Clever. Washing his hands of senile Joe’s war achieves at least two goals.
1) Ukraine will have to concede the ethnic Russian territories, and we can stop flushing US taxpayers money down the filthy Ukrainian toilet.

2) The EU will be forced to go into a fiscal disaster preparing for war with Russia, and plunged further into bankruptcy.

The EU is a bigger threat to the US than Russia is….and the EU slips into global irrelevancy.

MacGregor may have his opinions, but most other thinking estimates Ukraine casualties to be 1/3rd or 1/4th that of the Russian rate. There are also a certain number of surrendered Russian soldiers who chose to fight on the side of Ukraine subsequently. The rate of casualties of Russian troops is running about the same as the rate of recruitment of new troops with the current bonuses. There had been a slight reduction in the rate of Russian casualties as some commanders hoped for a possible truce or pause in fighting. That hope has gone, and the casualty rate is again running above the 1000 figure.

How many new troops will Russia be able to recruit once they run out of money to bribe new recruits to sign up? OPEC2’s recent decision to increase their oil output is a further blow to oil earnings by Russia. In addition, King Winter will soon be causing damage to Russia’s oil production facilities. Russia’s capabilities to cope have been seriously reduced by the loss of American expertise and spare parts.

Can one explain how a side with air superiority and ten-fold advantage in firepower can suffer higher casualties?
Is that leaked database complete with pictures and detail of death of 1.7 million Ukrainian KIAs fake?

Russia has a likely higher casualty rate because commanders send masses of troops with inadequate weapons and supplies on likely very difficult or impossible missions, and are afraid to tell top command that they do NOT have what is needed to succeed. Also Russian troops have a high rate of drinking to deaden their fear and despair, so probably make more mistakes. Perhaps their biggest mistake is to not mutiny against miserable leadership. In fact Russian commanders are resorting to having backup shooters to shoot the forward soldiers if they try to retreat. Russians frequently leave dead troops in the fields to rot, something Ukraine does not do to their fallen.

Ukraine troops seldom charge en masse, rather they use their drones launched from their cover to attack charging Russians, as well as shooting from good cover. In general they care about their troops and don’t waste their lives. Putin deliberately avoids enlisting Slavs from the Moscow and St. Petersburg areas. Instead most recruits are from non Slavic groups and tribes, and Putin could care less about how many of them die for his folly and ego building. The figure you quoted is most likely a fake and designed propaganda.
