Trump signs order creating ‘Gold Card’ with $1 million price tag, ‘Platinum Card’ for $5 million

President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Friday officially creating the ‘Gold’ and ‘Platinum’ cards for heavy-pocketed immigrants wanting to get into the country.

The ‘Gold’ card will cost $1 million, and the ‘Platinum’ card will cost $5 million.

Trump previously pitched the gold card as a replacement for the EB-5 visa program.

The president believes the program will bring in more than $100 billion for the Treasury Department. He says the funds will be used “for cutting taxes and paying down debt.”

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said the new program will allow the United States to “only take extraordinary people at the very top.”

“Instead of people trying to take jobs from the Americans, they’re going to create businesses and create jobs for Americans,” Lutnick said.

On the trumpcard.gov website, the ‘Trump Gold Card’ is offered following Department of Homeland Security vetting and a processing fee. It says the card delivers “U.S. residency in record time.”

A business gold card, called the “Trump Corporate Gold Card,” costs $2 million. The card is transferable from one employee to another with the application of certain fees.

The ‘Platinum’ card is not available yet; the website says it is “coming soon,” but offers “the ability to spend up to 270 days in the United States without being subject to U.S. taxes on non-U.S. income.”

Trump believes the new cards will make tech companies, which often use skilled immigrants, “very happy.”

When Trump originally touted the card in February, he suggested wealthy people would be entering the country with it and “paying a lot of taxes.”

I see no purpose in this.

Immigrant visas without having to pay US taxes seem like a bad idea. Think of all the wealthy Americans who might denaturalize and get these visas.

I don't feel comfortable about this.

American citizenship should be something sacrosanct, reserved for immigrants deemed worthy. I don't know exactly how to measure for that.

But American citizenship should not be a commodity sold on the international bazaar.

The purpose was literally stated. So isn’t a matter of it not having a purpose - it is whether you agree with it or not.

Not selling citizenship. It’s a visa for wealthy foreigners to start business here or for established business to pay for the card for top employees.

It is, one, a deterrent. Two, it prepays for the expense of taking in an immigrant.

Doesn’t mean it will be bought by those who are truly committed to Western values such as rule of law and natural rights. I think some caution is advised.

I guess we’ve now put a market price on US citizenship.

Pathetic.

Okay, FReepers, don't get too upset about this.

The EB-5 visa program has been in effect for several decades.

As follows:

Congress created the EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program in 1990 to stimulate the U.S. economy through job creation and capital investment by foreign investors.

How Does the EB-5 Program Work?

1. The EB-5 program is currently the only visa program designed to allow foreign investors to gain permanent residence (a “green card”) in the United States. It requires a minimum investment of $1 million, or $500,000, if the investment is in a rural or targeted high unemployment area where unemployment is 150% of the national average. The investment also must result in the creation of at least 10 jobs.

2. There are 10,000 EB-5 visas available each Fiscal Year (FY)

3. To qualify for the EB-5 program, immigrants can invest directly in a job-creating business, or can invest through regional centers approved by USCIS to promote economic growth in designated areas.

4. If the investor’s initial application is approved, the investor can apply for conditional residence in the United States. Once approved, the conditional residence lasts two years. After two years, the investor can apply to have the conditions removed and have the conditional residency made permanent, but only if the investment has resulted in the creation of a minimum of 10 jobs, as required.

For the past 50 years any pregnant illegal that jumped the border could is automatically a citizen. Many Americans talk about canceling their citizenship if they don’t like who is elected. All kinds of low spectrum people get citizenship just because they won a lottery or are related to someone who did.

Reagan gave a million citizenships to border jumpers.

American citizenship has been looked up on as cheap and worthless.

He is just increasing the perceived value of citizenship.

So what if a few thousand actually by their citizenship for a million dollars.

It’s better than millions getting their citizenship just for breaking the law.

I don’ like it one bit.

The United States should no be for sale. It is a cheap, low class, tawdry, money grabbing scheme

Excellent point. Increase the value of something and it becomes valued. If somebody wants to jump the queue, it is much better for we, the people, to collect the fee rather than some human trafficking cartel who pays the deep state party to cooperate or look the other way.

This is the way it needs to be sold rather than visas for the wealthy as it will be branded.

Yeah, similar, but “EB-5” VISAs required USA investment/USA job creation with the money...the new PDJT version is just a fee that goes to the treasury? (I haven’t read the EO yet).

Well they have to be approved for a visa first, before they pay. And then they only have a visa so they can be deported if they turn out to be undesirables.
