Those who get their news primarily from the social media platform X were flooded over the weekend with posts about the killing of 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska, a Ukrainian refugee stabbed to death on a Charlotte, N.C., light rail train........
Musk also said stories like Zarutska's are "sorely needed" to expose failures in the justice system, and warned his followers about "the magnitude of legacy media lies."
Other conservative figures amplified the story as well. British journalist Piers Morgan asked his 8.5 million followers: "Why is the disgusting, senseless, unprovoked murder of 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska by a man named Decarlos Brown Jr. on a train in Charlotte, NC, not getting more media attention?!".....
"If Iryna were Black and her killer white, the media would be rioting non-stop," conservative commentator Benny Johnson posted.
Critics of this "media blindspot" argument push back, saying raw interracial crime numbers can distort public perception. "Most crime is intraracial," Richard Rosenfeld, a criminology professor at the University of Missouri–St. Louis, told the science outlet SciLine in 2021.
He cited Bureau of Justice Statistics data showing that between 2017 and 2021, white victims reported white offenders in 8.7 million incidents compared with 2.38 million involving Black offenders. Black victims also overwhelmingly reported Black offenders—1.88 million incidents—compared with 371,000 by white offenders......
A 2023 report from the Manhattan Institute, a right-leaning think tank, underscored this point, though from a different angle. Researcher Zach Goldberg found that Americans dramatically overestimate the number of unarmed Black men killed by police while underestimating white victims of police killings. In one survey, 44 percent of liberals believed police killed 1,000 or more unarmed Black men in 2019. The actual figure was 29, compared with 44 unarmed white men.

Does it really matter what the press reports and doesn’t report? Who by now doesn’t know that 1) the press is biased with a head buried in the sand, and 2) black people commit violent and other crimes way out of proportion to their population. It should be second nature to stay away from the crime-committing demographic of blacks (young, male, and/or in groups) to anyone with a brain.
It was random only in that Brown chose to kill Iryna rather than some other white person.
