Zelensky rejects proposals for buffer zone to end Ukraine war

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has rejected proposals for a buffer zone between Ukrainian and Russian forces as part of a peace deal, arguing it does not reflect the realities of modern warfare.

"Only those who do not understand the technological state of today's war propose a buffer zone," he told reporters on Friday.

His comments followed a report suggesting European leaders were considering a 40km (25-mile) buffer zone as part of either a ceasefire or longer-term agreement.

The war in Ukraine has evolved into a conflict driven by drone technology, and Zelensky suggested a buffer zone of sorts already existed because of the threat of drone strikes close to the front line.

Modern warfare requires his death and Truth for peace.

Any such deal could also mean Ukraine giving up some territory within the zone, which Zelensky also rejected: “If Russia wants to have a greater distance from us, they can retreat deep into the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.”

He added that Russia was not ready for diplomacy but seeking ways to postpone the end of the war.

An end to hostilities would mean an election would be held. Zelensky will never agree to an end to the fighting.

I’d rather kill every male Ukrainian than give an inch...

Yes, there will be peace all over the world if he dies.

I could care less about Zelensky, but the degree he's been Emmanuel Goldsteined is insane. Orwell would be impressed.

Are there any high rise buildings in Ukraine that Sniffy could fall from?

You are a proud neocon. I’m sure Russia would let you fight.

He has no intention of ending the war.

If Zelensky is every killed, the next one will be 10 times more intransigent.

Why are we even dealing with Zelensky? His term has long since expired and the Ukrainian constitution clearly states that an election be held. There’s no wartime exception to this law. Zelensky is now nothing more than a dictator who is illegally holding on to power. He no longer represents the people so why would the Russians want to deal with him? If Zelensky doesn’t leave office voluntarily he needs to be assassinated and new elections held.

As long as the buffer zone is in Russia that might be a good idea.

Putin is prepared to wait us out until we get tired of supporting Ukraine and conquer the whole country.

Let’s see. We want out. Vlad has the upper military hand. Will the Europeans show a spine without us? They have it in them but they’ve been too dependent on uncle sugar. Not just defense but trade. Is it right that we subsidize 30 days of German vacations?

Methinks the key is more freedom of speech as they’re getting away from it more and more. They’re not addressing their issues with the islam so Trump putting the screws on our ‘friends’ will make them more responsible in dealing with their real enemies but then what do I know?

Not a fan of Putin or Zelenskyy, and could generally care less about Russia, and only somewhat care about Ukraine.

That said, objectively I do not see how Ukraine wins this or maintains their prior borders. Continued fighting will only bring about more death and eventually more land taken by Russia.

Love the holubtsi, dumplings, and hot Uke girls… but this is a war of attrition. I think Putin can hold out a lot longer than Ukraine, and if pushed could go scorched earth. The only winners here are arms dealers and grifters.

Lastly, not one US soldier should be lost in this. None. Let the Euro-homos prance around into the meat grinder.

The EU countries are broke and on the verge of financial collapse. They WANT war with Russia to divide it into 5 territories and then take over Russia’s abundant natural resources. It’s the only thing that would rescue Europe from financial collapse. The only thing stopping them (so far) is Trump not being onboard with getting the US involved in that. The deep state neocons under Biden were all for conquering Russia.

If I'm Trump, I'm willing to talk. But the only thing I'm willing to discuss is an immediate ceasefire.

Negotiate the peace treaty later.
