Republican Sen. Tim Scott's goal in next year's midterm elections is not only to defend the GOP's 53-47 margin in the Senate, but to expand the majority.
Scott, the conservative senator from South Carolina, told Fox News Digital soon after taking over late last year as chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) that he aimed to increase the GOP's control in the chamber to at least 55 seats.
And he's standing by his goal.
"The bottom line is, I believe that we can defend our current seats while adding at least two more seats to our numbers," the NRSC chair told Fox News Digital earlier this year.
Senate Republicans enjoyed a favorable map in the 2024 cycle as they flipped four seats from blue to red to win back the majority.
But the party in power—clearly the Republicans right now—traditionally faces political headwinds in the midterm elections. Nevertheless, a current read of the 2026 map indicates the GOP may be able to go on offense in some key states.
In battleground Georgia, which President Donald Trump narrowly carried in last year's White House race, Republicans view first-term Sen. Jon Ossoff as the most vulnerable Democrat incumbent up for re-election next year.

It is already beyond belief that so many American voters still vote Dem when it means rampant violent crime, millions of welfare mooching criminal illegal aliens to support, daily lies from the government, no rights of privacy or freedoms and worse.
I hope they can “flip” cornyn, cassidy, murk too
Will win GA with a halfway decent candidate (Hershel wasn’t) and will finally lose ME. Will probably lose NC and potentially OH with Sherrod Brown running again. I’m not seeing a lot of pickup opportunities but rather GOP will be lucky to hold Senate.
In before the “No Chance” trolls and FR thumb suckers.
...’expand their majority’...ROTFLMAO!
I don't think Collins will lose Maine. Maybe she'll get 50% but she'll win. Trump won 45% of the vote in 2024 so Collins is not going to need that many voters from the other team to secure her reelection. Maybe if it was in a state like Massachusetts, she'll be in trouble. But her brand of "Republicanism" suits Maine rather well.
I figure the whole Democrat party will be on trial for treason or a closely equivalent charge throughout the entire 2026 campaign season. Should be on the nightly news as shocking detail after shocking detail is unveiled for the public’s viewing pleasure. Perhaps that will have an impact on voting.
Just a wish:
Maga Political Academy
Trump/Vance set up
Purpose: Vet those interested and teach those we want to run a campaign for city council, mayor, senate, etc. Retired police, Military, conservative religious, etc. Recruit from all states.
I know, and we will likely see a Democrat sweep of 2025 elections in November.
Murkowski is not up again until 2028.
Stephen Miller/Charlie Kirk are better builders.
Trump/Vance are rock stars.
While Republicans will work to defy political history in next year's midterms, they point to the Democratic Party's current brand issues
Current brand issues in Minnesota include Tim Walz utterly ignoring upwards of a $billion (with a "B") in fraudulent theft of program money for the "poor" and "school kids."
We also have a Democrat State Senator Nicole Mitchell, who was just found guilty in a trial such that she burglarized her step-mother.
There is the omnipresent Ilhan Omar who married her brother to get him into the country.
Democrats are well known to be pretty corrupt in this state. Neverteless, the national Republican Party should use their cash elsewhere. Minnesota is a rigged state. No Republican will be winning a statewide election.
Can he count? The goal should be 60 or he should be fired.
Nah. We should go for the nuclear option.
The Democrats almost did it but Kyrsten Sinema and Joe Manchin stopped them from doing it. Now they're no longer in the Senate as a result.
Her brand of “Republicanism” doesn’t suit me very well.
I live in Maine and a lot of conservatives here are pissed off at her for a number of reasons, and so am I.
You're not going to get Ted Cruz in Maine.
At least she voted for Kavanaugh.
33 seats would normally be up in the 2026 election, but it will be 34 because of Ohio (election to fill the last two years of J. D. Vance’s term). A lot of those seats are either solidly Republican or solidly Democrat so there is only so much room for possible pickups.
So they can continue to not a,low Trump’s recess appointments?
Great. Effing uniparty.
Supreme Court here we come! I believe we will increase, and, our beloved Clarence Thomas will resign (maybe after writing the majority overturning Obergefell? Or do I hope too much) and Trump will solidly the Court. Please God.
