Newsom sends letter to Trump urging him to halt redistricting push

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) in a Monday letter is urging President Trump to call off the map-drawing arms race, saying he should end a redistricting war that is sparking battles across the country.

Newsom warned that GOP pushes to draw more favorable maps ahead of the midterms were “playing with fire” and pledged that California would stand down if red states did the same.

“This attempt to rig congressional maps to hold onto power before a single vote is cast in the 2026 election is an affront to American democracy,” wrote Newsom, who has launched a redistricting effort in his state to counter efforts in other states that could increase GOP seats in the House.

The GOP doesn’t need to gerrymander. Ungerrymandering the Democrat gerrymandering would be sufficient.

Hey NewSCUM one simple question “What was the cause of the Palisades fire” its been SEVEN months, still no answer, I think we all already know the answer..this should be the biggest scandal of the century if a sitting Governor and the state ordered the total destruction of an entire city in order to build low income housing

PDJT should look at the existing district lines in CA and bring some lawsuits against the Democrats to have their gerrymandering removed.

Dems have largely maxed out their ability to gerrymander . There isn’t much they could do at this point

Ahhh, the voice of sweet reason. Where have you been, lo these many years?

With Carville bloviating about new states, court packing, etc., does GrueSomeNewsom really think Trump is going to buy his line?

What about the ‘erroneous’ 2020 census that shorted Red states, and pumped up Blue ones?

The Blues are out of ammo, and it is looking bad for them.

FWIW, in light of new court cases, TX has to redraw districts.

Repeated from an earlier post, an excerpt from the California Redistricting Commission website...

The 14-member Commission is made up of five Republicans, five Democrats, and 4 not affiliated with either of those two parties. The Commission must draw the district lines in conformity with strict, nonpartisan rules designed to create districts of relatively equal population that will provide fair representation for all Californians.

Nothing in this says that California districts should (or can) be redrawn in order to settle a score with another state.

What’s in the Legislature now is a proposal to have a special election in November to temporarily suspend or modify the state constitutional provisions regarding the commission. Half of the Legislature needs to vote for the election and two-thirds to put the constitutional measure in the ballot. They have until the end of the month
