And worse, he says, it's doing so under the ideological direction of Hamas.
Friedman, who served at the AP's Jerusalem bureau from 2006 to 2011, first spoke out in 2014 about what he witnessed. But in light of the October 7 Hamas massacre and its aftermath, he returned to the conversation with more urgency — and evidence — that journalism has been weaponized against Israel, truth, and democratic societies themselves.

This is a lesson that can be learned just by reading the headlines. I try to make a point of reading liberal news sources, dry heaves not withstanding.
Some people living in the old Soviet Union were often surprisingly well-informed, despite having access to only heavily censored government news outlets. The trick lay in developing a sense of offset with regard to the news. That is, they just naturally assumed that if the government was saying one thing, the truth must be different by a certain degree, depending on the circumstances, and so they adjusted accordingly.
