SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Gov. Gavin Newsom will soon be a first-time firearm owner.
Shawn Ryan, a conservative-leaning podcaster, gifted the governor a Sig Sauer P365 XMACRO pistol within the first five minutes of his show featuring Newsom on Monday. The pistol is a popular pick as a concealed carry firearm. Ryan told the governor it's California compliant.
"This is fabulous," Newsom told Ryan as he held the pistol in his hands. "The last thing people would expect is that I respect this gift."
"Really?" Ryan replied.
"Yeah, man, I'm not anti-gun at all," Newsom said as he placed the gun back into its box. "I'm not anti-gun at all. I'm just for gun safety, common sense. The vast majority of folks on the right and the left agree. And I think we've lost a little touch with some common sense around background checks, I think there's an age appropriateness."
The governor told Ryan he has had concerns with large capacity magazines and "weapons of war."

I had to wait 11 days. Law is 10 but the store wanted to make sure. Background check included questions like ‘Is this a straw purchase? Do you know wat a straw purchase is?’. In addition to the wait it took 2 trips to the store and about 6 hrs waiting for my number to be called. Should have driven to Boomtown, NV.
