It was, the prosecutor declared, a “moronic mission” of historic proportions — a pair of hapless vandals who chopped down perhaps the most beloved tree in England, located in a gap in Hadrian’s Wall, a UNESCO World Heritage site built by the Romans.
The victim of the brutal 2023 chainsaw massacre, the Sycamore Gap tree, appeared in the 1991 movie “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves” starring Kevin Costner. Prosecutors, citing experts, said it was worth 458,000 pounds or about $613,000, though to admirers who viewed it as a symbol of the untamed beauty of the north, it was priceless.
At the Crown Court in Newcastle on Tuesday, a judge sentenced the pair, Daniel Graham, 39, and Adam Carruthers, 32, to four years and three months in prison for two counts of criminal damage, for the felled tree and the damaged wall.
***Lambert said she sentenced the pair at the high end of the guidelines, citing the social impact of leveling the tree. The crime “gave you some sort of thrill,” the judge said, adding that the convicted sycamore whackers “reveled in the coverage.”
***During the trial in May, the prosecutor Richard Wright seemed to struggle to find synonyms for stupid, before settling on “a moronic mission.” He called the killing of the Sycamore Gap tree “an arboreal equivalent of mindless thuggery.”

A stupid and senseless act of vandalism. However, note that th perps’ names are Graham and Carruthers. If their last names had been Patel, al-Salal, or Nkrumah, their sentences would have been far more lenient.
Hadrian would have chopped the tree down for use in defensive positions with nary a concern for nature.

Indeed.. England squeals like a stuck pig over one single tree while their entire nation is going up in flames. The English are looking right down the barrel of the muslim horde and seem completely paralyzed to do anything about it...
This situation would be very interesting if those who had cut down that tree were muslims. The English may have just sniff, swallowed hard and went on about their business of mostly ignoring muslim crime.
