In response, the city council organized a public demonstration to condemn violence. At a press conference, Mayor Pedro Ángel Roca stated that the town would “make every effort, including financial, to strengthen the police” and confirmed that efforts were underway to identify the attackers.
But what began as a peaceful demonstration quickly escalated. Hundreds gathered in the town square, including members of the nationalist organization Frente Obrero, who unfurled banners bearing Domingo’s pixelated face and chanted against mass immigration. The Civil Guard confirmed that, instead of focusing primarily on apprehending Domingo’s attackers—who remain at large—they are devoting resources to monitoring social media platforms for what they deem “xenophobic content.” A Telegram group named “Deport Them Now” has reportedly circulated addresses of North African residents and called for protests on July 15–17. Authorities have described these posts as incitement and indicated that further arrests are likely.
The government has openly stated it is investigating Spanish citizens for speech-related offenses while the violent perpetrators of the original attack continue to evade justice.

Political groups such as Sumar and Izquierda Unida (IU) have accused Spain’s only conservative party, VOX, of inciting “racist attacks,” arguing that the unrest is the result of “hatred stirred by the far right.”
IU leader Antonio Maíllo described the violence as “no coincidence,” blaming it on VOX’s messaging. The PSOE echoed these accusations, stating the crisis stems from “whitewashing the far right”—not the growing pattern of violent migrant crime across the country.
Podemos spokesperson María Marín has gone further, demanding that VOX rallies be banned altogether. She called on the government to prohibit all protests organized by VOX and associated groups, labeling them “neo-Nazi” and “dangerous.” Instead of addressing the migrant-driven violence that triggered the unrest, the government and media have focused their attention on condemning patriotic Spaniards who dare to speak out.
VOX, in response, has not backed down. The party has publicly referred to the incident as “North African terrorism” and announced its own demonstrations demanding tougher immigration enforcement and the restoration of national security.

People and culture don’t change. There’s a lot of kindling and the old man getting beaten is a little spark but the faces of the little girls or children raped and murdered will unleash the dogs... I’ve been saying for a long time that Europe is going to see massive ethnic cleansing. If they do it soon, the migrants will be removed. If the process is delayed, it will be the Europeans who are removed. But somebody is getting removed.
