Trump Shifts Deportation Focus, Pausing Raids on Farms, Hotels and Eateries
New York Times ^

The Trump administration has abruptly shifted the focus of its mass deportation campaign, telling Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials to largely pause raids and arrests in the agricultural industry, hotels and restaurants, according to an internal email and three U.S. officials with knowledge of the guidance.

The decision suggested that the scale of President Trump’s mass deportation campaign — an issue that is at the heart of his presidency — is hurting industries and constituencies that he does not want to lose.

The new guidance comes after protests in Los Angeles against the Trump administration’s immigration raids, including at farms and businesses. It also came as Mr. Trump made a rare concession this week that his crackdown was hurting American farmers and hospitality businesses.

The guidance was sent on Thursday in an email by a senior ICE official, Tatum King, to regional leaders of the ICE department that generally carries out criminal investigations, including work site operations, known as Homeland Security Investigations.

Hopefully Trump quickly comes up with a plan to allow the raids to get re-started, such as a real guest-worker program that requires applying at home and then coming to the US ALONE, rather than ‘bringing the family’.

“The decision suggested that the scale of President Trump’s mass deportation campaign — an issue that is at the heart of his presidency — is hurting industries and constituencies that he does not want to lose.”

Misinterpreting Trump again.

Will the NYT ever get Trump right?

Start with the ones who commit crimes other than crossing the borded. Don’t let the other ones vote until they earn it through civics ed and testing. Then they will be Republicans.

Then help us out. How SHOULD we interpret it?

Could be that these industries mostly hire “law abiding” (other than illegal US entry) people and he’s focusing on the gangs, drug peddlers and rapist illegals.

In North Carolina, we use a Federal program that allows immigrant farm workers. The program has been around for decades. But, most farmers don’t bother because they can get workers without the paperwork.

Just funnel farm workers into this existing program so crops get picked.

First, ask yourself this—do you, in your gut, trust President Trump?

Then think of how often Trump did something that seemed to go against his policies but turned out to favor them even more than previously.

Trump is part of the uniparty.

As I forget who said from that camp, and I paraphrase at that, “When the people want an opposition leader we will give them one.”

What’s an “eatery”? Does the NYT mean restaurant? Why not say restaurant? So ridiculous.

There is also the need to get that number of perpetual welfare cases trained to do farm work and related tasks so they can offset the illegal pool.

You are arguing for the amnesty that Trump has just endorsed. (And Bannon, by saying only those here for 4 years or less should be deported, has been arguing for all along.)

All it took was a few organized protests, which is why the Dems have been telling themselves “TACO”.

We now are being drawn into a war in the ME and starting the biggest amnesty in history, one that are country will not survive.

We aren’t in Trump’s 2nd term, we are in the 4th Bush term.

Farm workers are pretty low on the list but they should be gone too. Just give farmers a time frame to replace their illegals with americans so aren’t stuck with no workers .
I don’t really care if hotels and restaurants can’t stay in business without cheap labor.

If those “industries” are hurting from legal policies being enforced then they are complicit in breaking the laws and should be fined for each illegal used and imprisoned if they continue - not appeased.

We should go after them but only when and IF we get the bums, the criminals, the ones already missing their hearings FIRST.

Michael Savage says this is going to kill us in 2028. His opinion….
